What did you do with your Range Rover today

So today's job ... removing rhs blend motor which isn't behaving. Not as bad as expected and pretty easy to get out without removing dashboard. Replacement (new to me) arriving tomorrow. Interestingly when bench testing the faulty one there is only a pretty minor output voltage blip at the mid...

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

Did the head gaskets recently. Had to destroy the manifold heat shield on the drivers side to get it off. So wrapped the manifolds which I think makes it easier to put the head back on. As others advise removing the wheel liner is the way forward, makes getting to the rear manifold bolts so much...

P38A What are these pipes please on my P38

I changed the head gaskets (V8 4,0 Thor) and in the process had to smash off the exhaust heat shields. As I didn't want to remortgage rather than get new ones I wrapped the manifolds which has been fine. She runs really nicely and has no codes. Today when doing a few bits I noticed a bit of...

P38A Coolant in cylinder head inlet passage

I replaced the head gaskets on my p38 4.0 Thor a few weeks back and everything was fine. A few days ago notice a coolant leak from one of the hoses, tightened the clamp and pressure tested at 14 psi it to make sure it was ok I started her up and thought I heard a ‘whoosh’ noise from the engine...

P38A Broken oil dip stick tube removal

Thanks guys. Was hoping not to have to drop the sump as well but don't think there's a choice even if I get the tube out from above. Got to love 22 year old cars ;)

P38A Broken oil dip stick tube removal

Some advice would be appreciated please. Am in the process of doing the head gaskets on P38 4.0 Thor. The dipstick tube snapped pretty much level with the block when I tried to remove it. It is stuck in there solid. Someone mentioned a left hand drill bit would get it out. I tried this...

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Thanks @kermit_rr. Removed the manifold in the end and the bolts were just fine as you suspected :) Head now off and ready for the other side. Have a few wobble joints so should be ok if a bit difficult. After reading up will probably take out the wheel arch as you suggest.

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Sorry should have been more specific but I mean the exhaust manifold. At the moment I have left it on as worries the bolts will snap. The issue is the socket doesn’t seem to sit straight on the rear lower passenger head bolt as it buts up to the exhaust manifold. Just wondered if anyone has...

    P38A Head bolt removal question

Hi Guys, A bit of advice needed please. I am in process of removing heads on 4.0 Thor. I am hoping to leave the manifold on for removal. Is it possible to get to the lower rear bolt on the passenger (LH) side with a normal socket? I am not sure if it is going on straight or at a slight angle...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Well today started stripping down my lovely 2002 4.0 P38 to replace the head gasket due to a small oil leak. After 165k miles a bit of tic that is well deserved. Bad light stopped play for today (shame the clocks went back) but think I found the leak :):) Upwards and onward tomorrow.....

P38A Head Gasket Kit & ARP Bolts ?

Thank you @Henry_b for your detailed advice, really appreciated. Good news is have already had the heat shields off all be it they have less bolts now than they started with lol. It doesn't look too bad a job. I did the valley pan six months ago so pretty sure it's ok and have tracked the (very...
