Thanks @kermit_rr. Removed the manifold in the end and the bolts were just fine as you suspected :) Head now off and ready for the other side. Have a few wobble joints so should be ok if a bit difficult. After reading up will probably take out the wheel arch as you suggest.

Sorry should have been more specific but I mean the exhaust manifold. At the moment I have left it on as worries the bolts will snap. The issue is the socket doesn’t seem to sit straight on the rear lower passenger head bolt as it buts up to the exhaust manifold. Just wondered if anyone has...

Hi Guys, A bit of advice needed please. I am in process of removing heads on 4.0 Thor. I am hoping to leave the manifold on for removal. Is it possible to get to the lower rear bolt on the passenger (LH) side with a normal socket? I am not sure if it is going on straight or at a slight angle...

Well today started stripping down my lovely 2002 4.0 P38 to replace the head gasket due to a small oil leak. After 165k miles a bit of tic that is well deserved. Bad light stopped play for today (shame the clocks went back) but think I found the leak :):) Upwards and onward tomorrow.....
