Is this something I can do myself easily (not a mechanic, have few tools)?

Haven't yet got round to doing the suggestions yet as it suddenly stopped doing this. I've realised it sometimes does it several times a trip for about a week, and then stops completely for weeks. What sort of problem would manifest like that?

Ah, now you're asking. I can't remember the name of the hose but it's about a 1.5 hand lengths, slight curve, made of a kind of rubber-like material full of meshing I think. Will the others be close behind because they're likely to be the same age, or because of the failure of this one?

I did some basic diagnostics and then took it to a garage who discovered what the problem was - a worn bit of pipe with a big tear in it. Replaced, problem solved!

No steam coming from the vents. Garage checked it over for me - they say all the filters etc are fine. How could I check the weeping heater matrix? Mine is a *lot* worse than that! All over the windscreen and quite "thick" if you know what I mean, in damp conditions if I pop to the shops for about an hour.
