Will be doing the work myself, baring getting the chassis blasted/treated and painting the body. I will probably start a build thread on it this evening. Thanks for your help, been through the cab and there was nothing of interest in there, I do have a factory record for the chassis number but its pretty light on detail other than giving an additional line number but not sure what this means,I have attached a pic anyway Jon

Seems it most likely is a charmichle commando chassis then would make sense as it has a pto, just not sure about the drive through center axle. Could well have been added after service. once it's cleaned up and stripped will see if I can find any kind of part numbers on it. Hopefully it's mostly...

That is this one, he reckon it was based on a charmichle airfield fire tender but I can't find any other reference to a 6x6 variant only the tacr2 6x4 and commando 6x4. And that chassis number plate from landrover themselves made me wonder if land rover built it them selves originally. Jon

Around 75 with a 200tdi and defender transfer box. Might have gone a touch more but was to scared at that point, things get a little wobbly :)

2" will not be enough, had a set of 35x12.5 on my old bobtail d1, that had l around 3" on the suspension and a 2" body lift arches where also cut as far as I could to stop rubbing at full articulation. Main problem was poping half shafts and cv's when giving it stick off road though, so need to...

Not sure I would go that far into softroaders, although have had a td4 hippo in the past. Was never even intending to keep the sport but came up very cheap started using it for towing and laning and was really impressed with it, could go places even on road tyres that the td5 d2 on at's I had...

to be fair to it at the time it was put in probably wasn't a bad engine for it, absolute buckets of torque simple and robust. Pretty much idled up the ramp onto the trailer. But they only rev to i think 2k and are massively heavy. Jon
