Got out at it again today, meant to start wire brushing chassis but I’m going to wait till I’ve got some Bilt Hamber to paint it with. I did however make the mistake of investigating the floor by the seats.
Prodding revealed a somewhat rotten body mount and dodgy sills!
Looks like I’ll be...
The panels look ok, they were secondhand actually, off eBay! Someone whose Disco had been written off before he got round to fitting them. Have used YRM before and will prob use them for the other bits I need.
I can’t seem to find a replacement panel for where the rear of the floor attaches to the door step, does anyone know what I’m looking for? The rear crossmember is pretty solid so I’m not planning on replacing that.
Today’s work involved removing what was left of the floor.
Using this as an opportunity to remove and sort the fuel sedimented which was seized up.
I also ended up removing the seat clasp boxes either side as the wheel arches are rusty and will need plating at the top.
What it looks like...
I’m hoping not to remove rear quarter panels. I’m working in the open on the front garden so I don’t have a covered workspace. I’m not that bothered about it being factory fresh as long as it’s solid and safe. Do the three reinforcement beams under the boot floor attach to the bottom of the...
Latest update, productive afternoon yesterday! Got most of the floor out.
The corners are utterly buggered, so I’m hoping the repair panels will help. I’m also going to have to do some fabrication at the bottom of the door panels and replace the door lip. Weirdly enough the crossmember...
Ah that’s good to know, I’ll check that area out. Probably best investing in good spot weld drill bit. All the ones I’ve used before had a tendency to snap; is there a trick to stop this?
Not touched this for a while, apart from moving it around front garden!
Anyway got in Sunday afternoon to attack the seat belt mounting bolts which had stuck when I started it last year. A set of bolt removers and a session with drill bits had them out.
Then I started prodding around the boot...
Zombie thread update! I’d been happily using the old thing for the last few months knowing it’d need work before the MOT, which lapsed in April. Got distracted by fixing up my classic Mini which has been off the road for 5 years and needed serious work, this is now finished (as much as they...
My Disco 1 has quite holy corners under the rear door, causing the rear door to be a pain to shut. A nearby scrapyard has a Disco 2 in stock, so I’m planning on taking an angle finder and cutting as much as I can out the corners of that to use on mine.
Does anyone know if the shape is roughly...
Not much of an update but played a gig with my folk rock band at Moira Furnace in Leicestershire. Pulled the Disco up to the blast furnace to unload, and accidentally re-created a 1990s Land Rover promo shot (especially if you ignore the gazebo)!
