Eyup I come seeking the wisdom of the elders, the big feller my dad has just bought himself a 2000 reg Defender 110 TD5 to replace the old and well abused N reg 110 200Tdi. First is there any nasties to look out for with the 110 TD5, it has 80 thou on the clock and has been well looked after...

No probs, he was lucky the thing was in one lump and just fell out, if it has broken up it would be best to flush the bits out so as not to cause any damage later on, good luck with it.Sprox:)

My mates 2.5 RR did exactly the same. Start from cold, go a mile or two then big gushing geezer from the header tank, let it cool all ok, another mile and off she would gush again, got a friend who does landys to tow it in and have a look at it, he was certain it would be the water pump and sure...

Sorry smart arsed was a bit strong and everyones input is appreciated, granted there not as good as the TDI, but I have known a few people had them in the past and never really had much trouble

I know its so with the petrol model, when our local car sales gets one in the first thing they do is replace the silly plastic dowels with steel ones, they recon the plastic ones let the head move and cause gaskets to fail. dont know about the diesel models though. Sprox

HI if the last post dont fix it try new flexible hoses to the caliper, i have known them to collapse inside and act as a one way valve, allowing fluid to pass through but not return. Good luck. Sprox;)

Just a thought but have you been using the air con, as this can cause headache untill you get use to it, first time our lass had a ride in a tractor with air con she had a bad head and a dry throat. Srox

Hi my mate had the same problem with his RR, turned out the water pump had gone seems its a common thing with them as its made of plastic, may still need a head gasket and skim if its boiled a lot.
