ok, so i had the key tested today, and was told that the transponder chip is missing, which is why it wont start the car. I called main dealer to order a new key and waiting for them to get back to me as there are several options, whatever that means...just a quick question will the new key need...

Thanks, if I get time tomorrow, I'll def do that....even if that's not the problem right now, the fob is well battered and seen better days so will need replacing sooner or later :)

The fob is def dodgy and battered! I bought a refurb kit, replaced the buttons, battery cover etc but no joy ...I probably need to replace it, not sure how to go about it though ( can u tell im new ;) !) I've got someone coming tomorrow to run diagnostics so hopefully can make some progress then...

Hi this is my first post here so please be gentle with me :) I have a 1997 P38 2.5dse auto which i love, but at the moment it wont start. the key fob and central locking has always been touchy and it has never unlocked or locked the passenger side door , but by replacing the fob batteries...
