Thanks for your help, guys! It was a duff battery. Showed 13.5V, but the voltage collapsed when I turned the key. Jump cable started the engine, so all is well with the starter motor - phew!

Thanks guys! I have had the clutch replaced at Safari engineering in Eversley (£500), but as that's the only place I know, I don't have much reference. @bluedog333, I suspect a fair bit of chassis welding / repair will be on the cards.

After a great first year with my 1993 Defender, it's MOT time and I fear there will be need for some structural work beyond my limited skills. So, I'm looking for a trustworthy garage, ideally specialized in fixing and restoring Land Rovers. Any suggestions from you lot? Thanks, Shady

Hi LandyZone Citizens, After years of longingly looking at Landies (and haggling with the good lady), I finally took the plunge with a 22yr old Defender 90. Now I just need to make the doors keep the train out and find an original steering wheel (apparently I've got a Barbie wheel...
