Yes, thanks to all for those inputs - I completely get it re the economics. Although the car has 2 years left on the warranty, I had thought that now that this common (ish) problem has occurred (the CAN fault) but someone else is paying to fix it, I should be pretty safe in knowing this vehicle...

I am told that my D3 is fixed and coming back on friday after the garage have given it a good thrashing (I think the technical term is thorough road test)to make sure the fault does not re-occur. Don't know yet what the actual cause of the problem was or what has been done to fix it but I will...
