Scorchio here today, was 42 deg. earlier and I had to move the car this afternoon, although it was fully covered in a carport it said 46 when I switched it on. It's punishing.

That sounds like quite an undertaking for anyone. I've done another bookshelf today though some of the books are still in boxes and there are more though they've got box files rather than books on them. The circumstances of what you are doing are very poignant I would imagine.

A grand as a deposit sounds a bit steep. If it was 20k/30k maybe as you say, but not for something a lot cheaper.

Yep - I tend to use those strong veg boxes from supermarkets to move things and if you get the deep ones, its possible to fill them such that you can't lift them.
