L322 BMW V8 - Not another coolant leak ...and an oil leak for fun too

Valley pan manisfests in drips further back drips drips around the bell housing thingy. You can see the place where coolant leaks through a drain hole with a good torch but it is hard to know where to look unless you've had it apart and without pictures. Charlie

L322 BMW V8 - Not another coolant leak ...and an oil leak for fun too

I'd get the car up, ideally on 4 ramps to be level (drop the tray, looks like you have done that already), run the engine to temp, turn off the engine and observe with some goggles and a bright torch. If still nothing then you'll have to observe with the engine running (not pleasant) but the...

    2004 4.4 V8 petrol 115k - Is my engine dead?

Great news! :) That's a lot of play. With Saint's 'how to' the job will certainly be more straight forward. If you haven't replaced the bottom rad hose (water pump to radiator) I would replace it as a matter of course. Charlie

Now this is a curiouis one...Coolant over pressure and overheat....

Would there not be some residual smell coming from the coolant system when you release the cap if there was a leak from the gas side to the coolant side?

    Hidden coolant leak L322 4.4

From RAVE the auxillary pump is there to pump coolant at low engine speeds around the heater matrix since the main water pump is not spinning that quickly - just including for reference. It is my understanding that the pump should cycle coolant with the ignition in position 2 and the heater...

    2004 4.4 V8 petrol 115k - Is my engine dead?

No problem re the tools, I've used the viscous fan tool many times so buying your own pays dividends. My car is fine at the moment - I'm still pretty paranoid. The insane method of judging the gearbox oil makes you wonder if you've got it right and once you've had cooling issues any drip I see...

    2004 4.4 V8 petrol 115k - Is my engine dead?

I'm just the same - especially when nobody else seems to repair their own cars anymore, you start to doubt yourself! The deep knocking sounds the same as mine and from comparison to the timing chain noise video link it doesn't sound like it's that (?). I'd still drop sump the pan though - even...

Also found this - I'll be dropping my pan next oil change: BMW 740 engine failed timing guides M62 motor e38 bimmer merchant - YouTube and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C15xQwny3uk (if it is the guides, this may be worth doing aswell?) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZpSwaG1uds...

Now this is a curiouis one...Coolant over pressure and overheat....

What a royal pain! I guess it can only be a leak or fluid or air getting in. I've got nought to add apart from disconnect the vaporiser as said (I wouldn't have thought of that) .....but instead of disconnecting the gas solenoids could you not just pull the LPG fuse(s). You can on my PRINS...

    parking sensors fault

From your first post the sound was constant. The physical beeper is working fine. The circuit is either closed at the beeper level or a constant signal is telling the beeper to sound. I'd be interested to see if a new beeper unit (wherever that is) is at fault... Charlie

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Changed my transmission oil - got soaked in fluid...Plugged in an exhaust O2 sensor which was left unplugged by a previous mechanic...then drove it to an Equestrian shop to buy some pointless tat - sorry I mean tack.

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

I understand Bemble is Range Rover Phil and since I really don't understand how an auto gearbox works / hangs together the specified oil it is, thanks for the confirmation. Charlie

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Yes, agreed, the flush with dextron only makes sense to me if you can flush as per that video link - not something I would do with the arrangement on this transmission... Out of interest, if it could be done as per the video link would you flush with dextron? I still stink of oil!

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

I didn't take a pic as I had a bad day at the office. It is tan and it does have a sweet smell Oil everywhere, very exon valdeese - I have to work in a busy road which adds to the fun... A political spin would be that I did a flush and the a final fill but in reality I got in a bit of a tizz...

    Headlight intermitt please help!!!

Hi, I have the same problem, left hand side and get 'Check Dip Beam Light' warning. see http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/strange-xenon-behavior-170163-2.html I sprayed contact cleaner on the connections and it then works for a while. Not good form, but I do this to just get through the...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

I wanted to mention one thing. The oil cooler looks very much like a heat exchanger from a boiler. I have an old Worcester Bosch combi boiler that kept on turning on and off due to a temperature sensor giving a high value. The boiler was written off by a Bosch engineer due to the list of parts...

    Rolling start gearbox hiccup?

Yes - I had it at about ~75,000 (4.4 V8) , did an oil change that I should have done at 60,000 but was advised not to do (grrrrr), and the problem went away.... An assumption. but I expect that it wasn't a full fluid change. See...
