Defender TD5 Leak ball/swivel front axle

Hi dag ! Thanks for the reply. Garage confirmed that swivel, bearings and ball are OK. They have only to change the seals (cheap parts). What worries me is the 3.5 hours labour for one wheel. Do you think it’s excessive or that’s what it needs ? Best ! Julien

R380 gearbox oil to avoid crunch/grind

Hi James, Thanks a lot for all the valuable informations you give on this forum ! Have 3 small questions : 1- Didn't have the opportunity to drive a Def TD5 from new. So, my question : if a R380 is in good condition, are we supposed to be able to up-shift quick to 2d and 3rd with high REv/RPM...

R380 gearbox oil to avoid crunch/grind

Hi Thanks for your reply, From what I read, yes it may be the synchros BUT I read too that these are not fast gearboxes, and that I should not up-shift quickly at high rev from 1st to 2d and 2d to 3d. I have to say that I have no grind/crunch going down the gears at any rev. Some on the forums...

R380 gearbox oil to avoid crunch/grind

Hi all, To those who changed form original LR MTF94 to ---> Difflock Evo1 or Fuchs Titan Sintofluid SAW 75W-80, did you notice any difference by making the 1st/2d and 2d/3rd changing smoother while changing up fast and high REV ? Many thanks :)

    Rebuilt gearbox

When going DOWN the gears, I have no problem. It goes down very nicely and smoothly like a little FIAT 500 :) It's only going up with high revs and quickly on 2d and 3rd that I feel in my hand the lever slightly blocking/grind/crunch. By the way, why does a small throttle blip helps while on...

    Rebuilt gearbox

Thanks james. Yes. 3rd and 4th are aligned. I think No prob with bias springs. My only concern is that I can not high rev it more + shift more Quick from 1st to 2d and 2d to 3rd. I feel that the engine can rev much higher on these gears if i want, but the gearbox will not follow. But maybe...

    Rebuilt gearbox

hi tottot when I shift gently and slowly without high reving it, Everything is ok. I have to decompose well passing by neutral. Please see vidéo Link below. Is this a normal way for shifting gears in a defender ? Thanks a lot ! https://we.tl/b-HHWNivosyV

    Rebuilt gearbox

Hi Yes. When I shift gears slowly and with low rev. Everything is fine. I have to decompose well also passing by neutral. Please see vidéo attached. Tell me please if this is a normal way of shifting for a defender. Sorry for the noise of the wipers. Many Thanks ;-) https://we.tl/b-HHWNivosyV

    Rebuilt gearbox

Many thanks ! What was in yours before the Difflock Evol1 ? MTF94 from dealer or another oil ? So we can compare. Another question : do you know if Difflock Evol1 is 75W-80W viscosity ? because I don't want it to harm the gearbox pump. Very Many thanks ;-)
