3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

I never thought you would, but it would be kind of a rental! And just imagine how far a rented Range Rover would go? In all seriousness so, of course you could borrow her!

Wouldn't that be contradictory in a sense?

    Is there another way? 😁🏁

MPG? I guess fuel economy is something the car is remotely aware of, but doesn't care! I reached the point of enlightment where I don't neither beyond MPG being an indicator something migjt be wrong.

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

The carbs are more or less fine, as far as I can tell. Not properly calibrated so, and the left one still needs a new temp-sensitive thing (the one that regulates the mixture based on temperature, the right one already has a new one). Out of curiosity, what is an Italian tune-up?

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Sooo Almost good news to report! Just took for a test drive on the highway, a section with some hills. She pulls without complaining up to 4.5k rpm in 1-3 rd gear, climbs the hills easily somewhere between 110-120 km/h and achieves a top speed of 130. 0-50 km/h takes arpund 6-7 seconds. That...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Somehow I am still not asleap. Anway, I ordered some exhaust installation paste (I mentioned the new exhaust came without installation kit?). I remembered something so, after I realized the exhaust has one tube per cylinder bank: Before I changed the ingnition leads and spark plugs, the exhaust...

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Today I finally managed to attack some issues she developed a while ago. Did a compression test, not following procedure so that will be repeated tomorrow, changed spark plug and ignition leads and annoyed the neighbor with engine noise! Also, I realized the new exhaust came without fitting bits...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

I'll give it another go tomorrow and let you know!

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Don't I have to take the front of to chrck the cam timing chain positioning? I'll have a look at the valves with the rocker covers off one of these days, just to be sure. And repear the compression test properly tomorrow! Maybe there wasn't a real problem besides spark pligs and ingnition to...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

All plugs out, but no throttle... I installed the new ingnition wires, she runs so much smoother with those and the new plugs. In idle that is, did have time for a test drive. So, tomorrow new compression test on full throttle, test drive. Maybe exhaust if I can use the old nuts and bolts and...

Also, nothing out of the oil filler cap.

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Good thing so, the blow back from the right carb is almost gone. Oh, I found a loose exhaust manifold screw.

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

So, new plugs are in. And I tried it wet, same thing, 8.5 bar max on the left bank... Didn't bother with right one. Seems to run better with the new plugs, still not enough power at low rpm so. With an advanced (?) ignition she runs almost acceptable at 1k rpm in idle... So, just how do I fix a...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

I found the results of a compression test from 2013: Nice curves from 4 bar all the way up to 10 on all cylinders... So, JLR managed to install the Cloynes timing wrong or Tunesia killed the head gasket?

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Ok, so, I did the compression test... Doesn't look too good in my opinion, but I can't actually tell. Test was done with budget (no chinese crap, but I don't pressure curves) tool. Results as follows: Cylinder 7: First turn 5.5 bar, max pressure 8.5 Cylinder 5: 5.5 and 8.5 bar Cylinder 3: 5.5...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Kermit-rr, let's hope it doesn't come to that! Compression tester is ordered, so next week I'll know more! And as soon as the heat and sun goes away a bit, I'll attack the exhaust.

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Ratae, you are right regarding my skills and time. So, new exhaust (needed anyway, the old one is a sieve), new spark plugs and a compression test. After that, we'll see. Since I need to pay someone anyway, heck, I'll propably go for new, pirted heads and new rocker assys.... Fingers crossed...

3.5 V8 Carb Engine Blow Back after cam Shaft replacement

Compression test sounds good! One other thing so, the right hand carb (the one with the blow out) and the exhaust have black soot... Is that only fuel not properly burned, or oil? Please tell me it aint oil!
