    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Have also checked the harness connector under the coolant expansion tank as corrosion here apparently can lead to the symptoms my car has been suffering. But again, all clean. Have cleaned everything with contact cleaner as I go along just to be 100% sure that it’s not a bad connection or...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Certainly have. All looks very clean indeed. I think the fuse box had likely been replaced not long before I got the car judging by its condition.

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

So to update. Today I’ve had the cover off the fuse box and removed the fuses/relays. All looks incredibly clean in there with no charring anywhere. All contacts look virtually brand new. Can probably rule out the fuse box as a culprit at this point. Sandy.

Also had the crank position sensor connector off. It all looks shiny and clean on the contacts so starting to consider ruling that out as a possible cause, but may just buy and fit a new sensor regardless.

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

I was thinking along the same lines (perhaps a wire with broken insulation contacting the body or similar). Have spent a good few hours going over all the connections and earths in the engine bay again today. Everything looked good and all the grounds were clean and tight but have used contact...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Was that how dating worked in the olden days? Sounds like a hassle, we’ve got apps for that now. o_O

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

I’d quite like to buy one, but probably can’t justify it to my better half for another month seeing as the Lynx was purchased fairly recently (along with a tonne of braking/air suspension components). I could slip it all under the radar a lot easier if he wasn’t into cars as well...;)

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

I haven’t checked the voltage under full electrical load yet but will do that tomorrow and report back

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

I'd agree that getting it checked over with Nanocom is probably the best thing to do at this point. Sadly being up here in Glasgow there aren't quite as many folk with the kit to help me out haha. Yeah to the best of my knowledge, the Crank Position Sensor data goes to the BeCM via the engine...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Funny you should say that. 64rpm did feel a bit too convenient a number when thinking about computer systems. Are you thinking Engine ECU or the BeCM? Sandy.

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

You and me both Dan! He's cost me a pretty penny over the past few months, above all else it would just be great to find the fault and fix it. Driving around waiting for the P38 death dongs is getting wearisome o_O haha

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

I've not really played with Lynx much (should probably have bought a nanocom tbh) but it seems to be giving some clues. Assuming charge pressure refers to the MAP yeah. I'll have a look at the pipe you're talking about for sure, but I suspect this is a fault of the electrical variety. When the...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

The plot thickens. Perhaps also worth mentioning that the following faults have now appeared on the EMS which were not present before 136 Fuel Flow Actuator Circuits 11 Lost Communications With Fuel Injection Module 133 Charge Pressure Sensor (B5/1)

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Also, I’ve just been out again with the Lynx connected (monitoring engine live speed again) Whilst coming to a stop the engine died and you can see on the live graph read out attached that the engine speed signal fell again to 64rpm when this happened. Starting to feel quite puzzled by this one.

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Hi Guys, So to update on what’s been happening. I hooked the car up to the lynx tool today and whilst looking at the live data for the gearbox was surprise to see the engine speed at 64rpm despite the engine not running. Anyway, I took the car for a run with the lynx connected and all...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Cheers, have decided to replace the fusebox for a new one regardless of whether this is the cause of the problems as they seem to have a habit of failing. The part should arrive at the LR dealer on Monday so with all being well, I'll fit it Monday evening. Sandy.

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Thanks guys, I would definitely agree that the symptoms are indicative of a low voltage somewhere in the system and, as we all know, the P38 is all too easily upset by that. Strangely, there's a healthy 14.2-14.3V at the battery at idle and 14.4V at the battery at 2k RPM which would suggest...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Yeah it would be great to finally get the issue resolved. I’ve been pretty lucky get evey time it’s happened I’ve been in a safe position. However, I can just imagine the problem occurring whilst merging onto the motorway and really don’t want that to happen and create a dangerous situation...

    P38A Phantom gearbox/alternator/EAS fault

Hi Dan, Can’t thank you enough for your insight. That would explain why the voltage output from the alternator usually looks good (as I’ve not been able to check it whilst the faults have been occurring). Might throw another alternator on as they’re not too expensive for a Bosch job. Sandy.

Cheers, I’ve got the Britpart Lynx diag stuff but haven’t used it yet. Will try hooking it up tonight to read codes.
