Would any of those faults store a code or not? If I spray contact cleaner on rails sensor it appears to be ok for a few days. I had a new rail sensor 12 months ago as it was faulty and tick over was all over the place. Didn't replace the cable at the time as it already had 3 cables going to it...

Did you get round to fixing it, if so what was the cause?

Would there be any reason why the misfire only seems to start after the engine has warmed up or done about 15 to 20 miles after startup or is this just another Freelander curve ball?

Chaps & Chapesses Simple question but I doubt a simple answer. I think I may have one or maybe more suspect injectors. Symptoms - lots of white smoke on startup and v lumpy for 10 seconds or so followed by a misfire from 1500rpm onwards. It's always had a bit of a misfire around 2000rpm but...

That's bad luck, did mine start of October with the o ring kit and all is still well. At least you fully versed in how to do it.

Is the outer part of the sprocket retainer tightened in all the way?

There's 2. The one you'll have undone is on the same side as the starter. The other on is a bit more awkward, it's 180 degrees opposite the first one but is accessed from the other side of the starter. The bolt screws into the back of the starter.

Most definitely disconnect, you have permanent live to the starter motor, if you don't disconnect and accidently ground the live you could be in a whole world of pain if it fries ECU etc...

Couldn't tell you that for sure, but I'm not heavy on the pedal. Had to do a speed awareness course once and not sure I could handle another one...

I've no idea with regard to the glow plugs, mine starts fine and is only smokey and lumpy for about 5 seconds or so after starting (wish I could say the same about myself)! I'm getting confident with mine now, I'm even starting to put 20 quid of diesel in it at the garage instead of a fiver!!!

I just bought the replacement o ring kit for mine and I've had no problems. Once you've done it the first time it wouldn't phase you if you had to do it again.

I did my TD4 06 recently and must have watched the same video as yourself. I didn't lock mine as the nut that retains the hpfp wasn't overly tight to get off. Key to it is making sure the sprocket retainer is used correctly and make sure the engine is supported underneath when you remove the...

Just a quick update, couple of weeks on and all is still well. Still got the smokey start and slight miss at 2k, but other than that all is good, for now! Maybe it pays to just check the simple things first.

Be interesting tomorrow morning to see if I still have the lumpy start and white smoke...

It does indeed and it has the little fix to stop Daffy making an appearance every time the engine stops. In all fairness though it's always had the 2k miss from the day I had it and the EGR valve was on then. It was also very clean when I took it off to replace with the bypass.
