Bulkhead repair thread with lots of images

Hi mate I did mine last year and there are some photos on here if u do a search with my name. I'll just repeat a bit of stuff I learnt over the repair; Get good quality repairs panels ( I used YRM) if nothing else for the reason they will be of decent quality metal Only repair the areas that...

    Fuel filter sensor - HELP!

The self bleeding thing on the TD5 is a right pain in the arse. Either I pour diesel into the new filter and then screw it into the housing or if the bleeding thing doesnt work I just give it a tow and let the clutch out, it will fire up after about 3 or 4 seconds. Probably not the text book...

What have you done on your 90/110/130 today?

Nice plume of diesel on the road and saw that my fuel filter was leaking. When I was renovating Landy I didnt have a budget and so some things got Britpart and somethings didn't. Yes it was a Britpart fuel filter and yes it was corroded. I had a Mahle one I was going to change over anyway so I...

    Buying a Defender

This seems a lot of money. I recently did a "nut and bolt" rebuild of my TD5. I literally took everything apart and cleaned and replaced where necessary, and either copper greasing or loctiting all the bolts depending on their function. 18 months later I work on her every Saturday morning doing...

    Defender td5 10P - no air pressure

Hi mate - just make sure u inject oil into the turbo with a syringe before you start up ur Landy! When I rebuilt my TD5 I put a reconditioned turbo on and there was an A4 piece of paper in the box with this written in capitals! Good luck mate

    Immobiliser Issue...possibly?

Hi mate - I had exactly the same issue. I chased everything down. I replaced the solenoid on my starter, then I changed the starter, the battery and even the cable from the starter to the battery. It was the small connector to the starter, it had become corroded. I just replaced the spade and...

Defender TD5 dash warning lamp thingy

Hi everyone Im gradually getting through all of the none essential items on my rebuild. I had to get a new fuel cap yesterday and the guy at the parts shop was like "there cant be anything you havent replaced". Anyhoo the plastic cover on the dash warning lights is cracked and Im trying to...

    Very intermittent non starter

As above! I had exactly the same issue. I changed the power cable from the battery to the starter motor and then the starter motor itself. Local garage recommended that I spray some contact cleaner into the spade connector - sorted it out for a few months then came back. Changed the spade...

How do you value an original defender?

To get a value price for my insurance renewal I put my 2000 TD5 90 through wee buy any car - £12k. Couldnt believe it. I bought mine for £2.5k 2 years ago but have restored it, not too expensive just all my time for a year. Crazy money.

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

Tried both ways. The way that worked for me was to dab a wee bit of grease on the socket and pop the bolt in, then I just carefully offered the bolt up onto the thread slowly turning the socket with my fingers. I also clamped the bit that the handle joined onto with my fingers. Basically I used...

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

I went for the foam ones - I just made sure that they were fitted to the edge of the vent. Seems to be ok for now and to be honest I wont be opening the vents in a hurry - I live in Perth!

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

Hardest bit was getting the bolts into the vents - need to have the hands of an infant!

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

Sorry its taken so long to post some pics - I've since replaced the hinges, stainless bolts, captive nuts and door mirrors. Seems every weekend is taken up with changing something - this weekend is a full service - Mahle filters all round.

    Defender imobliser keyfob issue

I removed the immobilser on my TD5, not worth the bother. Basically it just stops the actual owner from using their Landy intermittingly. I was chasing faults and contacted a really helpful guy in Brighton who fixes the 10AS unit - and from that I just permanently switched it off. It still...

    Bulkhead & Dashboard Removal

Ive just done some major work on the bulkhead on my TD5 last weekend. I just repaired mine and didnt take the whole thing off, but for what its worth I would say this; Window frame removal refit - Headliner needs to come off, 3 bolts on the bulkhead either side, 1 screw either side above the...

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

Hi Everyone - I just wanted to feed back on my bulkhead repair to my 2000 TD5 Defender. I started on Friday night and did about 3 hours of stripping everything out. This included taking the windscreen frame out, which wasnt too bad due to the corrosion on the bulkhead, all the various sundries...

    Bulkhead Vent replacement

The bottom of the doors are all good so hopefully wont need much attention if any. I might rethink when I'm going to do this, I suppose Im getting cold feet! My mate is keen to help, but I think having a Friday evening and a Saturday would be wishful thinking to do the job. Thanks for the...
