The oil makes the electron flow more smoothly :)

LED Full Beam - Very weird situation

My thinking is that the engine will turn over with low battery voltage i.e 12 volts but the LEDs may require slightly more to fire up. My TD5 Disco would fire up no problem with low volts but it wouldn't rev as the ECU didn't like it. Worth checking the voltage at the battery and at the bulb IMO...

Had to do one on my TD5 Disco, assume a defender is just as easy.

You say they work ok with the engine running so maybe your battery is on it's way out.

    L322 TD6 Low ECT

I doubt the EGR will affect the ECT but others may know better.

The FBH should only kick in below around 6 degrees. As you say the thermostat would be my first choice. Looks like it maybe the thingy @gold rover was talking about.

Not heard of a second thingy but it is a LR product so wouldn't surprise me.

Is the viscous fan stuck on? Do you hear the FBH running? you should hear a clicking at rear of the car for the FBH fuel pump.

What did you do with your Range Rover today

Mine was an ARB bush that had been trapped in the bracket and was fine once correctly seated.

For the MY2005 it needs to be below around 6 degrees for it to work.

    Driver door won’t open

It was only -4 when I left this morning. I think the FBH running for 20 minutes helped a bit :)

    Driver door won’t open

May be the rubber door seals frozen to the body rather than the lock.

As said it all depends on your circumstances. If you have money to burn then get what ever floats your boat. If you're on a budget but good with spanners perhaps an older one. If you're on a budget and relying on garages for repairs then go for something non LR.
