1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Didn’t have that much joy today annoyingly! Got the other lower arm bracket off the other side and managed to loosen the upper bolts holding the a-frame to the chassis, but then they got stuck... Began grinding them out but wore down the last grinding disc- going to continue grinding the crap...

Ace, will get a stubby 30mm on it. How big are the bolts which hold a frame to chassis- are they 24mm?

Ah right thanks, that makes sense about the springs. Ring spanner might be the way to go- thanks for advice!

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Right. Made a good start with everything today. Wheels off, jacked up and ready to remove springs... First annoyance- the spring retaining clamp bolts began to come out fine, but then the bolts sheared! Turned out a previous fixer had welded the nuts to the axle brackets... Springs came...

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

MOT passed today, which was a very pleasant surprise! Advisory on front ball joint which is weird as I did them last year. Going to go all out on suspension and do all springs, shocks and bushes as it’s still got a bit of death wobble though. Should be fun...

Yeah I saw- read lots of your posts on headlight wiring too haha! The Boomslang kit is pre-wired which I why I got it, thought it would be easier than building loom myself.

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Not done very much with this at all in the last few months, mainly because I don’t think I’ve driven it further than a few miles from house! However the headlights hadn’t been working properly when switching between main and dipped beam for a while- there’s be a split second of darkness when...

Disco 1 New MOT - now for some headlight inspiration!

Ah great, I’ll do that then. Wiring already came in flex conduit as part of kit. Will post pics when done.

Disco 1 New MOT - now for some headlight inspiration!

Zombie thread alert- where’s the best place to run the cable across the front on a Disco 1? Under the radiator, or behind grille/in front of rad? Bought kit and want to wire it in right place.

Disco 1 Headlight switch connector replacement?

My main beam headlights had been playing up, sometimes working/sometimes not. Pulled the switch out and found this bodged connector! Can you get a replacement from anywhere, or does anyone have one off a breaker? Cheers!

    Wanted Original Disco 1 Radio

I have this beast in mine, the original one fitted in 1992. Not for sale but gives you an idea of what to look for. Can’t remember model number but will have a look.

    D1 200tdi origonal radio code?

I had this problem. If you have no joy with LR I think there are some services who can decode your radio if you send it to them. I was all ready to do this to get my original tape/radio working, then I noticed the original radio code had been written by hand on the inside of the cubby box lid...

Has anyone actually cured death wobble properly?

There are one or two D1s around near me, there’s an H reg 3 door and a 300tdi 3 door on the road I sometimes see, and another H reg 3 door parked in a unit which hasn’t seen the road for years nearby. The drop arm is fine on mine, tightened that up to very tight when I put reconditioned...

Has anyone actually cured death wobble properly?

As per my project thread, I’m trying to rid my Disco 200tdi of death wobble. Done lots of searching on forum, so far I’ve done... New tyres all round New balljoints New steering damper Reconditioned steering box One side swivel (passenger side as it seemed hitting bumps on this side made it...

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Yeah that’s a possibility, but I think the passenger side swivel went because bits from the shattered CV joint worked their way into the bearing and killed it.

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Back from holiday in Zafira! New swivel housing came, so fitted it and did swivels. Think it seems ok- needs proper test drive to check. If it’s not Ok, where would be next port of call? It’s had all new balljoints, steering damper, Panhard rod bushes, tyres (balanced), and refurbished steering...

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

Haha thanks! It’s trying my patience a bit- I’ve had to borrow the father-in-law’s Zafira for the family holiday up to Yorkshire this week because of this. I was quite cross with the Disco but I’ve forgiven it a bit now I know why the swivels went.
