If you want to see expensive you want to see truck parts prices, scania aftermarket brake chamber 200 quid, genuine 2.5x that. Super single tyre for a truck 500, genuine DAF exhaust system 18k, 2 injectors fitted...

    Years ago I remember an old guy telling when he bought new oil he immdeiately decanted it into a 5 litre pouring jug, then put the old drained oil into the new shiny oil container and left it outside his garage, every time it would disappear overnight!

    I had already stuck 10 ltrs in there when he come and told me that the max was 5 litres, I then said well I have 4 cars and a boat so that is a total of 6 engines, he had a to think to breath then replied it is still 5 litres mate!

    You can get a tool off ebay quite cheaply that holds the injection pump drive sprocket in place whilst inj pump is removed.

    Maybe someone fitted new o ring and left old one in there.

    I read that they stroked the old 2.7 to make the 3.0, and this made the slightly dodgy crank even weaker. I can remember when the 3.0 was new and all the owners were saying sell your 2.7 as the new 3.0 as it is much better! I think the 3.0 in the RR makes around 300bhp?

    I think that is a 300tdi VE pump. O rings possibly the sme.

    If that is an A127 alternator, it is three screws and a few minutes to drop in a new brush pack, I think newer A127 on 300 motors are different.

    Depending on how you get on, it might pay you to break it, engine alone with ancilleries/rads is worth 1k, check out defender 200 tdi engine parts prices on ebay etc. Galv chassis must be worth the same. Daft things like roof lining are worth money.

    Ah okay, i only asked as I once had this with my d2 parked in certain places it would not unlock and sometimes crank and not start, push it a few yards and it would be back to normal.

    Not sure how a worn spigot bush would cause a noise? Maybe get someone to lay underneath and see how she rattles when the engine stops.

    Sounds like it is gearbox out time again. Could be friction plate damper springs.
