I would say that is scrap, remember back in the day when 200s were new they had a rep for snapping cranks, I even bought one that had just been rebuilt after a crank failure.

    Petrol or diesel?

All the time hgvs are diesel then diesel will be available. But for the cheapest owner experience I would be going petrol.

I knew it would cheer you up, nice not to be forgotten, I have always told the younguns at work when you pass on knowledge that you learnt off of some old fart always say where you learnt it from, as that will make the old fart happy even if he is dead! I am always saying if you do it this way...

Looks like that has had water in there, if keeping it I would get a machine shop to take a look at it. Iirc std 200 cranks are not mega money.

Panel Repairs - 2 Pack Adhesives

I think the fact the alloy sheet is flat is going to be your biggest enemy, ie it can wibble/wobble like a thunder sound board is going to make a glued joint fail.

    Petrol into my diesel DOH!

Think the pump deuse fuel system only runs at 4 bar on the td5, high pressures are actually generated at the injector itself. Being a tightwad I would chuck a litre or two of oil the the tank and run it. I had a td5 years ago and I ran it on all sorts of crap dirty diesel, to be fair it had...

What do we think of this engine noise?

Ah so the clearances were to tight? I had in my mind they would be slack, if that is the case that makes a lot of sense. If that is all it was I would be buying a lottery ticket:banana:

Premium bonds are okay, safer than betting as you can always get your initial sum back, though you have to remember cash devalues 50 percent every 10 years, well it is still worth the same but buys 50 precent less stuff, plus you might just win something.

The co he worked for then sold out to another and so on a few...

I have my doubts being mid 50s is even worth adding/starting to any pension. Recently changed job and decided I am not starting another pension at 56. I think existing ones means I will be able to retire early and keep afloat until state pension kicks in.
