1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

They do mate via spot welds. Yeah totally get that - it becomes a mare when outside and you can’t keep it sealed up. I’m sure I saw threaded holes right next to the side pieces too but can’t remember now? My new floor turned up but I got a load of work to do yet. Keep at it mate, well worth...

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

If you want to tie into the rear quarters like it is front factory, the rear quarters have 90 degree angle at bottom that the side pieces go to. Also looks like these have been eaten away by tin worm. You going to remove rear quarters?

Nice work 👌 Snap! We are at the same place 😂

    Try again….

Exciting times. I had those panels off quicker than you could change a set of wheels 😂 O/S rear quarter. No damage to the seat belt anchoring area on this one. So thankfully again, no damage to to top of the posts. Get in.

After a small clean and hoover. Chassis looks good 😊😊😊 One small patch on the trapezium but that loooks like it so far 👌 I haven’t taken side out yet as need to remove other rear quarter and take some measurements for the braces for the new floor Fuel tank hanger looks decent and solid...

    Try again….

Rich had patched up the rear boot floor, which was fine for few years but 30 year old spot weld seams only last so long. I’ve decided that it will get totally new floor to go with a new rear crossmember. Even managed to snap my spot weld bit so still some left to do!! Rich’s spot welds were a...

    Try again….

Nothing too heavy to sort on nearside rear. Nice outcome. Top of d pillar thankfully clean - it’s one of the worst jobs to do that corner. Got a patch to cut out, new arch to go in and remove and reinstall belt reinforcement plate so that I can re-skin under it. Also got to redo boot floor to...

1992 200tdi Discovery, improving daily driver turned into rebuilding rear end.

I don’t use the centre spring loaded ones anymore as I always end up jamming them up. I use a solid one. As above, use cutting oil. Probably not the best but I keep a bottle from my last service and use it as cutting oil in my oil squirter can. Screwfix also used to do a big box of mixed drill...

already fitted mate as dash is all out for the recolour. I prepped dash and then added binder and what I’d call a scrub coat which is colour coat by hand.

Also mate (you may already know), if you plan to use dicky seats, their belt anchors are in rear quarter. There’s a panel fold spot weld join to the right of c pillar bottom, and then 105mm to the right of c pillar is a reinforcement plate. Rear quarter panel can rot between this and also at...

Good to see you back on it. Boot floors are easy mate honestly. Just get either a good spot weld drill bit or a step one.

    Bankzs 110 CSW XS Build

I was only looking at these the other day. I used to have a twinscroll legacy import. One of most capable cars I’ve ever had. I’m bored with my daily and starmer has literally taken the benefit of me running it so will probably go private car. They look far less asbo in white - my legacy was WR...

1996 Land Rover Discovery 300TDi Restoration

Also, unless your particularly unlucky, it will mostly be body rust not chassis rust. YRM, Froggats easy on panels make replacements for most things. I use yrm for all my stuff now

1996 Land Rover Discovery 300TDi Restoration

None of you are warning the man off! You’re encouraging him to get welders, workshops and start chucking all his time and money at it 😂. OP - If you want the body done properly, its a long old journey. I enjoy restoring them back make sure it’s something you actually want/enjoy doing before...

Call me daft but I don’t understand how it stops it curling. Do the screws go through the foam and into harder material underneath? I ordered it in grey and it’s pretty close to the new grey which is a winner!!

If you ever remove an engine. Tape up your loom. Otherwise it may dangle onto the prop when your winching and wrap itself up and rip 🤢 Resto moved to its final build place I hope.
