Just reporting in. All seems well and the knocking is all gone. A good tip for a priming tool for the oil pump is the shaft of one of your dad's golf clubs. Take off rubbery handle and shorten to preferred length and then nip it in the vice. It can be long enough so it doesn't foul any pipes...

That's what I did - bit by bit. All back together, but looks like heavy rain, so bath time me thinks. I did poke the timing chain and it's slack as a hooer's knicker elastic, so I might have a gander if I can find the time.

Okay dokey, all going fine and I'm on the final tighten and I'm confused about the final torque. manual says 98ft lbs and another says 1-4 caps at 52 and rear 68 lbs. Initial tighten I did to 14ft lbs for settling. What gives?

A broken bar later we seem to have spotted the issue: Almost looks like the wooden table is showing through.o_O

I'll get a bigger bar from a mate. One point, though, are the bolts "one time" stretchy bolts? Dog is always flea\worm\tick protected. Would be a flippn' nightmare otherwise.

Mines be auto. I couldn't really see anything that they would rub on, so maybe it's just the way they are. I'll take a snap tomorrow. I'll check out Saint's How To. I was looking in the tech archive and must have missed it. With the stethoscope, the sound did appear to be low down. I was trying...

I haven't been able to pop one out yet, I re-attached the pan as we are expecting thunder storm, looking at the whole thing, the main ones at each end need the engine out, but the others seem like I would be able to pass the new shell around with a bit of a fiddle.

Classic Knock, knock , knock investigation....

I mean the connecting rod caps seemed to have scuffing on them...all of them. i was wondering if this was caused by worn shells on the main bearing caps., ie the main journals, not the ones the connecting rod and piston are connected too. Does this make sense? the scuffing in on the caps with...

Classic Knock, knock , knock investigation....

I dropped the sump today and noticed that there are scuffs on each side the cylinder caps. I'm assuming this is the source of the sound. I seem to have good oil pressure and the compression test, dry and wet provided excellent results. There was bugger all metal in the oil in the pan. Is this...

    Dreaded wooden knocking sound!!!!

Okay, so I have this sound and I think it may be the bottom end and I read some of the threads. The engine only has 86,000 on the clock, so could it be summit else? I don't want to run the engine too much, but the pressure light never comes on and the sound stays after warm up. If it is indeed...

Classic Classic wiring and leccy japes-a-plenty

While we are here can someone recommend a decent brand of wiper arms that will fit this? I can't get the round bit off and it seems factory done. There isn't the little grommet in the side like on adaptors.

Thanks for the pointers kev, much appreciated and same to the others. Expensive iggy parts does not mean good and there are chancer sellers out there. I went and looked for a manufacturer that makes top knob iggy stuff, not the supplier but the manufacturer is what to look for.
