Cheers oxcides that makes some sense re filler pipe as its a late 2a, or could have been replaced i suppose, i had looked at some series 3 though and all i saw on ebay today that had engine pics had a filler pipe.

Uksfp thanks for that, yeah it has a blanking plate where the oil filler shoud be, i take it they have just been putting oil in through rocker cover. might see if i can find a oil filler pipe and put that back on the side. Dave c am trying to find a pic of the weber twin choke, its got no marks...

My 2a 1971 has the extra welded taper on the passenger side of the rear axle as you look from the back it is the long side of the diff, i read somewhere it was welded on because the castings were weak on the 2a. Any way, mine has just rusted away , axle is fine , chassis is fine. I took trusty...

Made up a spanner to remove the viscous fan...just about to get started when i noticed the water looked a bit pale in the rad topup tank, not its normal blue anti freezed colour, this was because there was no water in the top up tank!! I put 4 litres in and low and behold i have heat again...
