Those two pictures of the gauge show it is charging. What is the alternator rated to? 60-80A is common I think, and that is at max revs. It probably pushes 40A or less normally (I don’t think it will fail and over-charge, just undercharge). I think an 80 mile drive will be fine, and will...

Reviving this. I have a misfire at high revs now (didn’t a couple of weeks ago) after the alternator pulley pinged off. Car is a 3.9 EFi, now in a ex-TDi Discovery. Belt is now back on and the alternator (200A version) is raising the twin batts from 12.4V to 14.3V when running. The misfire...

And this is where the fun starts. It was a TDi and has a diesel rad, but a 3.9 and auto box (guessing it was a v8 auto?) was slotted in.

3.9 EFi on a sepentine belt, yes. Photo of the front of the engine Discool? I'm trying to get to the underneath to see the existing pump, however there is a long 'thin' one (ie stretched parallel to the ground if you will) and a more compacted, squarish one for V8s I think?

And the belt goes like this? Clearly there is a bit of slack on the tensioner in my diagram!

Reviving this old thread, but I have searched and obviously there are VIN databases. When a V8 is changed from one Rover to another, it is unlikely to be the same year (engine and chassis numbers), so is there a engine database? So I can check I’m getting the correct water pump (say) for my v8...

Would be interesting to know! Africa is great, but spares are the real issue here. Toyota spares are readily available, especially for a 70 series landcruiser. Disco 1&2, RR and original defender too, however even rover guys here will admit, you need to know how to fix them!
