Disco 2 What is this part?

Great. Thanks. That makes sense. I've recently had to top up the power steering fluid, though the reservoir level had been pretty stable, on minimum, since I bought the car. Andrew

Disco 2 What is this part?

Sorry. The car is a Discovery 2, 2002, TD5. Thank you. The part I'm referring to, and 'circled' by the box in the picture is the black box-shaped unit behind the (dryish) pipe. It has a ca. 1" circular screw that sits flush with the outer casing - shown in the top centre of the picture. Below...

Disco 2 What is this part?

Thanks, It's not the pipe, its the box behind it. On the RAVE: I don't have adobe acrobat on my computer. My pdfs open with something called 'Nuance pdf Viewer Plus. Maybe this is the reason, though the software opens all other pdfs. I'm going to spend some time this evening seeing if I can get...

Disco 2 What is this part?

I am still trying to open up the pdf files of the Rave manual. I'm working on it. Until then, can someone please tell me what this component is (I can't find it's image in the Haynes manual): The view here is looking up into the engine through the twist-off cover just below the oil sump plug...

    Belated 'New Member'

Thank you. I already know that this is a nice community! Lynall: Thanks. I know that the car thinks a door is open, and it doesn't do it all the time. But it does it when all doors and the bonnet are properly closed. I can live with it.

Prop Shaft UJ lubrication - some questions :)

What is the best type of grease for the prop shaft? Is it lithium grease? The Haynes manual just says 'appropriate' or something like that. Andrew

    Topping up Power Steering Fluid

Thanks. I think I worry too much!

    Belated 'New Member'

I've been a member of this forum for a few months and have never filled this out. I bought my first Land Rover in the Spring of this year. It is a 2002 Discovery 2. I'm currently in Yorkshire but relocating to Caithness and the vehicle has already done three trips. Apart from the immobiliser...

    Topping up Power Steering Fluid

This has been discussed already on this forum, and I've spent a while reading the previous posts. But I'd like to ask again about potentially mixing Power Steering fluids (PSF), as the information is not clear: I bought my D2 about six months ago and the PSF level was at the minimum mark on the...

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks again for all the help. I've taken the car on a good run today and everything has held tight.

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks. That's reassuring. Do you know whether that small section of hose in my image 2 has a part number, or name? It is about 50mm long and ca. 5mm I/D. I've looked in the parts pamphlet that someone kindly gave me and have searched the internet for the hoses listed, but none seem to fit its...

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks for all the advice. Having replace the large top hose clip (in picture 1), I've now had to replace the clamp on the smaller hose that comes out of the top of the radiator (in picture 2) since coolant was spluttering out of this when the engine got to temperature. It could be a coincidence...

    Help please! Sunken rear end.

Can someone please give me a bit of detail about how the ride height sensors work? I have had a garage replace and calibrate them. I want to buy a trailer, and my tow ball (while the vehicle is unladen) appears to be quite high. Its midpoint is 480mm, so higher than the EU Directive...

    Towball height

This is not really a Land Rover question, but I thought that someone here would know. I bought my Discovery 2 to tow a caravan. Caravan is now moved, and I'd like to buy a flat-bed trailer. This was my first time towing a caravan and I have never bought a trailer. The car's tow bar is not height...

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks, Someone on here sent me a link to the Rave manual. I uploaded a zipped folder. When I unzipped the folder most of the files on pdf were not recognized by my computer and it would not open them.

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks to all. I got the coolant reservoir out, no trouble (thought that 'swan neck' U-bend hose underneath underneath had me thinking that it was connected). I have two questions: 1. If the hose feels soft, particularly under high temperature, is it a good idea to replace it? 2. While I had my...

    Loosing Coolant

Excellent, thank you all! 'Kermitrr': the hose was in good condition and there was no rust. What I called 'decayed gasket' was brown and fibrous mat about 1-2mm thick. Odd, I thought. I'll have a go at raising the coolant reservoir and bleeding the system. Andrew

    Loosing Coolant

Now, I made some progress with this before reading the last two posts, and this is interesting. I found that there was a leak from where the top hose is clipped on to the engine head (as per my image 1). I took the hose off here without draining any coolant (so quite a lot came out), and I...

    Loosing Coolant

Thanks for the prompt replies and the information. That brown clip? I've no idea what it is for, but yes it does look to be a possible culprit.

    Loosing Coolant

Can someone help me please with a bit of advice? I noticed recently that my Discovery 2, TD5, has lost some coolant: about 100mL over about 60 miles since I did my last weekly checks. I've had the car about eight months and it has always been fine, having done ca. 4000 miles including six long...
