    Transfer Box

So for a straight forward job with no messing about then I would be best off fitting the D2 box and forget about the D1?

    Transfer Box

The one that's fitted at the moment doesn't have a hi/lo switch as such. It just has the lever for the diff lock and that does the high and low box. Is that the one you are calling a switch? Sorry for being a bit thick - I know about London cabs but not a lot about Land Rovers.

    Transfer Box

Do you mean I could just get away with swapping the flange or is it imperative to swap the bellhousing too? I would have no idea about setting preloads etc.. I will forget about the RR box. Thankyou

    Transfer Box

Thanks for that James. At present the vehicle has transfer box from a 2.5 N/A 110. A 12D I believe. Would the front output flange from that swap onto the D1 transfer box? The engine by the way is a 2.8 Isuzu diesel. Another alternative is to get a 26D from a Range Rover Classic 3 speed auto, but...

    Transfer Box

Can anyone help on this please? I want to know if the transfer box from a Discovery 1 is the same as a Discovery 2. I need the one with the 1.2:1 ratio . I have found one local to me but it is on a Discovery 1 and I just wondered if the ratio is the same as the 2.

    Dodgy garage advice

I used to run my place as a back street garage but wouldn't dream of treating people in an underhand or dishonest manner as above., In the 20 years we traded, we didn't have one complaint. I am not saying we never ha any faults with our work - we did - but anything wrong was put right at our...

    A lesson for you all

Those -bay fuses are crap, well some of them. I make them hold themselves in by twisting them out of shape a bit. Classic engineering?

    lifting out engine.

I bought a little plastic and metal clutch lining up tool years ago and it made the job of alignment a doddle. Can't remember where I got it from but still have it somewhere in the depths of the workshop.

Series 2 ford transit bannana engine

We've had a couple of cabs with the pre-banana engine and found the same thing - fairly economical, plenty power, easy to fix. Only drawback - a tad noisy.

    Diesel to petrol conversion

The current London Taxi, the TX4, is fitted with a VM engine but I don't know what size although through the years the taxis have had a lot of 2.2s and 2.5s.
