    A reconditioned head is no different to a new one if done properly. I would go recon with a decent supplier. Its not false economy, false economy would be fitting a second hand untested head.

    They are right fiddly to fit, and I took ages getting it back together becuase I forgot which rods fit which arms etc. Taking pics is a good idea. There are guides on here, its not difficult just fiddly. And give it a good shot of a decent sticky grease like HD ultra before refitting.

    Its not risky at all, the expansion tank water level goes down not up. You blow into the tank, if you suck air out your don't get the desired effect.

    Just fixed mine, same problem, turned out to be broken springs (get them off the net cheap) and needed a good greasing up.

    You will need a diagnostic to determine which sensor is causing the issue as it doesn't sound mechanical.

    If its an auto, I assume it still has the edc pump? If thats the case then there is no adjustment on the pump other than refining IQ.

    Check the fuel supply. Can't check anything else until that is ok'd. Fuel starvation won't throw up any codes.

    Chip will be here soon. Then pics. I am expecting to see 135bhp without reseting boost pressure, 145 with boost pressure, and 145-150bhp with a large intercooler. This is just guesstimating at the mo based on similar engines etc, I will run a few dyno tests soon.

    Lack of fuel makes a huge difference to mpg. If the pump is working harder to draw fuel, it will take longer to prime up each stroke to supply each injector, when the pressure is finally reached, it triggers the injector break pressure too late, causing incorrect timing, and as the stroke...

    lack of fuel pulls back the timing which will make a diesel very very sluggish but not smoke so much. Proper diesel diagnostics dictate you start by making sure there is sufficient fuel supply. Confirm this first, then we can work through the sensors :)
