    2005 TD4 Auto - 3000rpm & Check Engine Light :(

I bought mine from Terrain Vehicles in Bexhill. I went for OEM. I paid more than that! The cheap ones don't seem to last very long and tend to be noisy according to other members who have used the cheap eBay ones, so I went OEM.

    2005 TD4 Auto - 3000rpm & Check Engine Light :(

What you described is what happened to me. One day out of the blue the engine wouldn't rev over 3000rpm and the eml light came on. Ease off and it was fine. It was then ok for about 3 months, tgdn it happened again, but got more consistent. Finally it wouldn't rev over about 1500-2000 rpm...

    MAF operation

But why is the Td4 diesel turbo worse than others?

2004 TD4 auto gearbox oil change

The only problem with changing the oil is as mentioned above, taking the wrong bolt out and losing reverse. The oil needs to be changed at a certain temperature with the engine running to get the right level. Read the thread. Otherwise it is just the same as changing your engine oil.

2004 TD4 auto gearbox oil change

There is an excellent thread on here about changing the Jatco oil. You need to read up on it first even if you don't do it, so you can make sure it is done properly. It is not straight forward.

    MAF operation

Mine has a remap, so it will go if the throttle is pushed down hard when cold, but I don't like doing that! It needs much less throttle when slightly warmed up.

    MAF operation

Thanks, I thought it felt engine rather than gearbox related, but you could be right. My gearbox oil has been changed twice in the last 10,000 miles.

    MAF operation

I'm not talking about racing down the road when the engine is cold, I'm just talking about trying to drive down the road. I've had other turbo diesel engines and this is the worst by a huge margin until there is some warmth in the engine. You put the throttle down, and well, not a lot happens...

    MAF operation

When the weather is cool and possibly when it is warm, my Freelander Td4 auto is very sluggish for the first mile or so. I was wondering if the MAF has any bearing on this. I know about if it is generally slow to pick up and disconnecting the MAF and driving it improves it I would need a new...

    Td4 back box

Great quality product. Changes the tone of the exhaust and the turbo spools up slightly quicker. Don't forget to inform your insurance company.

    Thinking about buying a Freelander

The emissions on the Freelander 2 TD4 are less than the Freelander 1 Td4 auto, and are cheaper....

What have you done to your Freelander today

It certainly will 😎 Just watched the latest Top Gear Special, and seeing that what I need is a Lotus Esprit for off-roading, but the Leaf will do 😄 Ecotricity is my friend for long distance trips. Just takes a little longer, but at the moment I could get to Scotland for free...

12 years ownership and time to sell TD4

Yes that is a long time. I've only had mine almost 18 months, but I may have to sell mine. Not having to pay for fuel is a big pull.

    My 2006 TD4 Auto HSE

I know! I love my baby Land Rover. I'm in no rush to sell as everything is paid for until August.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Thought about selling it..... I'm going green. Leasing a Nissan Leaf. My annual fuel bill will go from £2,500-£3,000 to less than £250 with no car tax. Most of my journeys are well within the range of the Leaf.

    My 2006 TD4 Auto HSE

Well, here's one for the books. I'm going green...... I'm getting a Nissan ......... Leaf. So I may well be selling this at some point in the next few months if I can live without an infernal combustion engine. Mike

    Remap, Ronbox or both

Not for an hours use. It was to see if I could live with it. My insurer will go to 25%. Not nearer 50% increase. My remap was £250 from Terrain Vehicles in Bexhill on Sea. My insurer is aware of all my mods, and it costs the same as Direct Line would have charged me when I upped the spec...

    Freelander taxation class???

I'm sticking with what I have got. Mine was registered in July "06 as costs £485. Selling and buying an older one will cost me more than the difference saved. Maybe I'll buy a smart car £0 tax per year for running around in.
