what mpg out of your td4?

Oh, and in the last 1400 miles of motoring, I haven't visited a garage to fill up. [emoji41]

what mpg out of your td4?

My overall average is 31mpg. It's in the low side as I used it to drive around South London. Regularly got around 25mpg from my Td4 auto. Best long run was a tad over 41mpg. Generally get mid 30's on a run. But mine is now remapped and I have bigger tyres which skews the figures.

    Auto- how many gears?

Auto box oil change every 60,000 miles. It will start off in 2nd if you switch to steptronic. My auto is very sluggish when cold, and for about 1 mile will not change up till around 2500/3000 rpm. When warm I can get mine into 5th at around 42. It will then hang in there to about 38 before...

Just for North American market unfortunately. I replaced the clock because I could not see it and fitted an external temp gauge as well.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Connected a solar trickle charger to the battery to keep it topped up. Not used it for over 3 weeks. Running the electric car is ever so slightly cheaper.

Battery rental is an option starting at £70/month. Or you can buy the whole car outright, which the previous owner did. I own the battery. It is the Renault's that you can only rent the battery-no option to buy.

I drove it to visit my ageing parents this weekend. 75 mile in the rain. Outside temp was 4c. Standing water. Arrived with 13% left. Inside temp 21c with air con on to stop the inevitable foggy of windows on a wet day. Very impressed. Nice quiet peaceful trip. Yes I drove slower than I would...

Td4 Thermostat Replacement - The Way To Do It!

Well done for sorting it out. I had a garage fit mine 18 months ago. Book time for them is like 6 hours for the auto and involves taking stuff off the top of the engine, rather than the way you did it.

    Which would you buy?

The VCU is much, much cheaper to fix on the Freelander 1 than the Shaldex on the Freelander 2. Check it has had its rear diff sorted out as they had problems. Overall they are much more reliable than the Freelander 1.

    Auto or manual

I'm on my 7th auto including my Leaf and Freelander 1. I personally would not go back to a manual. Autos are generally less fuel efficient unless it is a dry clutch DSG or possibly the 8 or was it 9 speed BMW 5 series.

I saw a drag race between a BMW M5 and a Tesla. The Tesla won..... and it was over a good distance.

A new basic one after subsidies, yes. I have the mid range one with faster charger fitted. I have seen them from £9k second hand for a Gen 1. I have the Gen 2 with a few improvements like a heater than only costs me 5 miles out of the theoretical 124 miles. The Gen 1 had a theoretical range...

Makes such a difference. It was one of the first things I did to mine 18 months ago.

It does not suit everybody. Thankfully. I would get a Tesla, with s range of upto 300 miles, but at the moment they are a little out of my price range. (4-5 times what I paid for my Leaf)

If I have to pay to charge it up at home it will cost about £2 for 90-100 miles. This car is second hand and 1 year old so most of its depreciation has already happened. I expect based on what I have seen to loose £1000 in depreciation over the next year. Fuel costs about £250-300 pervyear if I...

For 95% of my driving it will be perfect. For off-roading I have a Freelander. It costs less to buy and run than the fuel bill for my Freelander!

Range is quoted as up to 124 miles. A bit less in cold bad weather. Last night or to be correct in the early hours of this morning I managed about 55 miles on 70%. It was snowing, raining and sleet and the temp was 0C. Later on in my journey (from Nottingham to South London -175 miles) I...
