Standard Vs standard the shogun is light years ahead. Loads of torque from low revs. Not like the v-tec style td5. And then you have the ridiculous turning circle, heavy stearing, uncomfortable ride and surprisingly small interior of the D2.
The negative side of the shogun is the expensive...
Latch cover fell off the centre console yesterday. Ordered some black pu adhesive to glue the latch cover, wing mirror, lower wing ,tailgate trim and bit of window rubber back on.
I wouldn't say the disco was all bad but it didn't suit me, poor turning circle, manual gearbox ,high first gear(towing), crashy ride, underpowered and a bad smelling interior . It was however very cheap and easy to work on.
What specifically is better on the land cruiser then?
Re. Mpg it's all isle of wight driving so small roads and town. Also I think it's running a bit rich
Well exactly, the toughest job it will do for me is tow a trailer. I've read about main or bigend bearing failure on the cruisers. It would be interesting to hear people's experiences now they are 20 years old and are £5000-£10000 more than a rangie.
Also I wonder what part prices are like? I...
I've just got the big Makita one. It will undo the wheel bolts easily but that's the toughest job it's done so far.

How does a l322 rangie compair to a 100 series cruiser? Petrol and diesel?
I've got a V8 petrol l322 and it is very nice to drive.
Plus points are:-
Loads of power
Very comfortable
Split tailgate ( good with trailer and useful bench/table).
Good steering lock (helpful for reversing trailers)...
See what happens after its repaired. If it keeps loosing water or getting hot you will know it's had it. If it's finished and you need the space I would just scrap if you don't want to fix it. I tried selling my manky but running disco for £500 for a couple weeks but gave up. Now trying to sell...
I think everything can cost a fortune now. I was reading recently that someone needed a new £1000+electronic box for their XC90. It had to be bought brand new as second hand wouldn't work. Also I don't think the gearboxes are great. I was in the same boat as you at the beginning of the year so...
I bought a 2005 vogue with the ajv8. Whilst it is a lovely car to drive, quick, comfortable, good looking, everything really. It does seam to be very high maintenance, I wouldn't buy one if you don't want it to be a project to fix yourself.
I personally would save yourself a load of grief and stick another engine in there. They sell for peanut's. That crank will need grinding or replacing and you will have a load of ****e floating round your engine ready to destroy the next crank and set of bearings.

The main reason I ask is that method was recommended on my shogun and when done, it made a considerable difference where as just draining the sump made little change to colour or the way it drove.
I would like to change the gearbox oil and filter soon as I do a lot of towing ant the car is relatively new to me. I see there are sump conversions from a one piece filter sump to a separate sump pan and filter cartridge. What is the idea behind these?
Also is it wise to disconnect the oil...
