Hay bales, dirt bikes, we have a 3.5 tonne dirt bike trailer with beds and a kitchen in aswell as obviously a workshop in the back where the bikes are put in to travel. Also a little massey ferguson 135 aswell as a few other things.

Yeah the trailers in question are over 750kg so iam planning on doing my trailer test not long after i do my driving test (presuming i pass that is)

Ill have to read up on it! You hit the spot btw, i do have insomnia so sleeping for more than 4 hours or so is something alien to me lol. Im not going to be doing long distances in the defender as itll just be used to get from my home to college, then towing heavy trailers, towing my dirt bike...

Thats my opinion too! I hope i can get a TD5 just for the reason that itll be more happy on longer journeys which require higher speeds.

Ill try to get some quotes! Im hoping i can get a TD5 but if it comes down to it ill more than happily settle with a 300tdi.

Im hooked on a Land Rover. So Maybe a TDI is the way to go if I can’t get insurance for a TD5.

That is correct, iam 16 at the moment. I havnt looked at insurance prices yet but hopefully £2500 - £3000 should get me fully comp insurance. Do you think ive got a chance of getting insurance for that money?

Sounds good! I love silicone spray, I use it on my dirt bikes a lot.

I dont know if this makes a difference at all but to get out of my valley i have to go through 2 fords (roughly about 30-40cm deep), would this affect the td5's electrics over time?

The mechanical side doesnt bother or worry me at all as thats what ive been brought up with (fixing tractors,combines etc) but the electronics are a bit out of my league, i mean i can fix simple things and i can solder etc. I think the td5 shouldnt be too hard for me to look after as they are...

That makes sense to me! I live roughly 10 miles from the nearest big town. I live in a hamlet of about 6 houses, I’m ‘okay’ with electronics but I’m way better with the raw mechanical sides to an engine.

So do yo.u think that a td5 is better for an all round daily driver?

Id just like a 300tdi (if i got one) to have a bit more poke than stock! How hard is it to fit a new dash to a 300tdi by the way, just out of interest?
