Why not fit a standard hose type connector but recess it slightly but cutting a hole and making a small box behind.

I've taken the original fan off and will keep it in the back for emergencies, but will see how it is when driving around town the next few days before fitting the temp switch in the hose.

Just nuts, bolts and gears. I'm sure there are places out there that would do a great job, but I'm not sure I'd rake the risk again. I'm lucky enough to have access to ramp and a full workshop, but if I'd have been paying a garage to swap gearboxes each time I'd be in a much worse place.

No, I've given up on them now. I've no confidence he would ever supply a box that's been properly refurbished so I'm just going to cut my losses and rebuild my other spare in my own time. If only I'd known that in November I could have done my own by now for half the price.

Turns out it isn't as good as originally thought, smooth gear changes but still pops out of 3rd even gentle overrun.

Pump timed this morning and it's night and day compared to before the refurbishment. Nice and smooth idle, no chuffing from the exhaust and much less smoke. Barely any at idle and only a bit on hard acceleration. Definitely recommend to anyone considering doing it themselves.
