did you pack rear of seal with grease to hold garter spring in place whilst you tapped new seal home

the damper spring would just effect damping not the clutch cover fingers,thats jut poor in itself

defender 300tdi and on is the same case as disco previous defender front axles had narrower radius arm brackets, if you fit a v8 as lr did right forward the disco/ rrc front prop also fits damper bracket bolts to any diff housing

as mentioned front shaft was an issue and would cause similar symptoms

park is a pawl locking in a castlated wheel so if theres no solid link to wheels on the ground box will still rotate and you get grinding as you try park you get the same effect with t box in neutral or props off

grinding when going into park suggests transfer box prop or rear diff have lost drive not g /box would explain the pinging in the prop tube

does fuel spray when cranking from injector

ive just been reading about decking and apparently unless double sided grooved the grooves go downwards so joints with framework breath,though its all grooves up from what ive seen

fuel does spray from injectors when engines cranking?but a compression test would seem a first thing to do

look at the rear prop

we tried the rendering just made more work before getting some one in :)

quality of parts varies, i find that frequently with well used trucks original clutch did 130k replacement 50k then another 100k or release bearings ,lever etc failing far sooner
