Not to hijack mate but I’ve a similar thing on my D1. It’s like you have to keep hold of wheel at all times. It’ll do it worse when you come out of a dip or pothole. Like you say, feels like it gets blown by gust of wind and makes my arse cheeks clench 😂

Have you driven defenders before? Tried and proven, yes and a way cooler vehicle than the hilux but I’d still take the hilux! Way comfier, decent aircon, stereo etc. You’ll also likely get more for your money.

Those skins make welding in that area a bit trickier - they are basically curved 2mm angle iron working as a brace. You’ll soon see them!

Disclaimer - not telling you how suck eggs!!! Where you have the rot and towards the front where the crossmember and rear spring hangers are, there are crush tubes (for the shock mounts) and also there’s double skins either side of the rail that are like inner fish plates. Bare that in mind...

I’m fond of it in German 80s/90s barges too. Fully specced out 5 and 7 series with the walnut trim looks the nuts imo but a lot of people hate it.
