Noise from front end - poss suspension?

Time to put this one to bed as well. Replaced the front struts today (amongst other things ;) ). Result... No knockings or bangings from the front end at all. Must have been the old strut internals worn enough, slightly bent etc that was making them knock.

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

Just to top this off for those interested: Have not posted a photo yet (being dim on how to post one) but after a good look into the darkest recesses under the dash, I can confirm that the only electrical item hanging off the throttle pedal bracket of my L series is the fly by wire pot. Are...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Gloker, I tried Bell Engineering via brother-in-law, just before Christmas for a VCU (and IRD) they flagged they had none available at the time but suggested mid to end Jan for the VCU. They recommended Freelander Specialist (www.freelanderspecialist.com) if I needed anything quicker. Got the...

Are 'Freelander Spares UK' rip off merchants?

Thats interesting. Did not know they were 4x4North-east. I ordered an L series OS top engine mount from them, one of two appearing on eBay for 23 quid. A day later I got an email saying they had refunded because all the stud threads on their stock were wrong and they had to send them all back...

Do you have any of the following?

Aha, thats a pic of my 2 big guys with Mr Do's little ginger fella . The smaller one is 11, ancient for an Irish Wolfhound. She does fit in the back of the Freelander. The big guy, McCabe, is huge and only fits with the 2/3 back seat down. Has a habit of sticking his nose in the drivers ear!!

What have you done to your Freelander today

All parts except VCU now ready for the weekend: - 2 new front struts - 2 new front driveshafts - OS TRE - OS new strut top mount (bit of an experiment, might need a NS one as well) - OS top engine mount Picking up the VCU first thing Saturday morning from deepest darkest Norfolk, and...

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

Only thing mounted on the pedal bracket of mine is the fly by wire potentiometer. Will take a photo tomorrow if I can work out how to include photos in the thread. As mentioned, per RAVE, there is no mention of a pedal switch providing input to the ABS ECU. The only throttle related data...

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

Ah ha - More exciting HDC stuff. Excerp from RAVE Freelander Workshop manual, Brakes section, description and operation, diagnostics A shuttle valve switch fault, sticking throttle and implausible gear input are classified as permanent faults. If a permanent fault is detected, the related...

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

Thats interesting. Do you know where the throttle pedal switch is located? Looking at the RAVE manual for the 2000 L series, the wiring diagrams and diagnostic info don't mention a throttle pedal switch. Socket 504 pin 10 carries engine ECU related information including throttle position...

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

Further to the above, been studying the RAVE wiring diagrams for Freelander 1 early ABS system this evening (TV was rubbish, wife asleep etc). The ABS and inputs from HDC are all pretty straight forward and should give a clear idea on what to test (assuming the ABS ECU is not at fault)...

Yawn Yawn - More HDC stuff

The other day my Freelander (2000 L series 5 door manual) HDC amber warning light came on while driving up the steep spiral car park entrance for the Grande Parade in Cambridge. 'That's odd' I thought, and duly ignored it until the day after when I took it out again, and the amber light came...

What have you done to your Freelander today

2000 L series 5 door - replaced the air filter to turbo pipe with silicon elbows and an ali T piece (for the oil breather) per various L series tuning comments on removing the corrugated flexi OE tube. Marginal but still positive noticeable difference in pickup, so possibly worth the 30-ish...

Noise from front end - poss suspension?

After bouncing the suspension up and down a bit today with Mr D Do, and comparing it to his, the knocking seems to be coming from inside the strut, and the up and down movement seems surprisingly small, so a pair of new front shocks ordered. Conscious of the number of views of this thread but...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

Do you have any of the following?

Per Diesel Do, I have a 2000 L series 5 door with 97k miles. Despite what he implies (:):) ) it was cheap, overall condition is good, and it is currently standard. Cheap enough to pop a recon IRD and VCU in without feeling hard done by. Just waiting for a recon VCU to arrive to get the...

Noise from front end - poss suspension?

Done a search of many of the Freelander 1 posts but not sure if I have found the solution. Knocking noise from the front end of my 2000 L series 5 door. Sounds like its more on the drivers side but not 100% sure. The knocking noise happens a lot on rough ground, but disappears on smooth roads...
