Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

So I've come a cropper slightly. As far as I understand it, the sunroof switch should send a 12v feed down either slate or green wire depending on how the button is pressed. But now I've plugged the switch in, once the ignition is on, the contacts are open between 12v, green and slate. So I've...

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

Drivers side pillar trim off reveals a few wires going up to the roof. Rave says the motor is powered by the Green and Slate wire, so snipped those and tested resistance to the wires at the switch to confirm they're the ones I'm after. Fortunately they were just accessible near the fusebox, so I...

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

I've checked Rave but could only see MY02. From what I've read the CCU energises the Auxiliary relay with ignition power, which then feeds the sunroof switch (amongst other things) through F12, switch then powers motor directly. Will do a bit of digging with a multimeter over the weekend to...

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

Thanks, that gives me somewhere to start! All I need to do is pick up the 2 feeds to the motor, to divert to the winch solenoid under the bonnet.

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

I'm happy with all the wiring side of it, just need to know where I can find the wires running from the switch toward the sunroof. I'm hoping it'll run back toward the fusebox and up a pillar?

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

So it turns out the blank is for the sunroof switch when fitted. My next question is, does anyone know where the wiring runs from here and it's path toward the sunroof? There's a power and ground coming from a relay in the fuse box, powered by Fuse 12 apparently. But if I could intercept the...

Freelander 1 Wiring loom to blank switches near handbrake

Evening all, I'm planning to install a switch for winch in/out in one of the blanks by the handbrake. The original plan was just to install a generic switch, which measures 32.4mm x 21mm, the blank is 32mm by 19mm, so would need a little trimming but not much. However, when I popped the blank...

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

Well I realised I missed a load bearing weld on the L brackets, to get the 90° bend I had to make a cut on the inside, but forgot to weld it up after bending. Will have to rectify it this week before any testing! Also managed to get the number plate on 1/4 turn quick release pins.

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

So the winch build is all finished, still need to plumb all the wiring in and run a switch to the dash but that's for another time. Bumper back on and the fairlead fits nicely, flush just behind the number plate, just how I'd planned. I'll get some QR 1/4 turn fasteners for the number plate...

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

The pipe turned out to be the power steering cooling line, fortunately it had enough give to allow the bottom edge to push back to clear the bumper. Will make sure it's still clear when fitting properly but perhaps put something around the pipe just to make sure.

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

It's not actually as big as it looks and it couldn't really be much smaller because it's got to span the gap between the chassis rails. I'll get some better photos tomorrow once it's properly mounted but this gives an idea.

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

Started making the bumper up today. It's going to attach to the standard mounting points using two 90deg brackets. I've only just found the air con pipe running up/down just inside the left chassis rail though. It sits proud of the rail by about an inch, so will need to work around that...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Made a start on the winch bumper. Just got to finish the side brackets which will mount it to the chassis rails and cut an opening for the fairlead.

What have you done to your Freelander today

I recently rebuilt my fronts with Big Red kits. Seal and piston was about 12 quid each side if I remember rightly, I didn't replace the sliders though just cleaned, regreased and new seals. No problems with the piston and seals either.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Knocked up an alloy sump guard to replace the plastic one that got unsympathetically removed last weekend. Just a couple of bits to finish up tomorrow before fitting.

I don't suppose you would mind sharing the cad files?

Mounting winch to standard bumper bar

I did wonder that, as it's not recommended to fit a winch feet backwards because you're relying purely on the strength of the bolts threads rather than the shear strength of the bolts. Daves mount also had side plates that wrapped around the chassis rails to provide additional fixings, so gets...
