Timing series 2a diesel fuel pump

Hi Folks, I'm coming up to timing the fuel pump and have been checking the flywheel markings. I'm not sure which type of flywheel I have; the early or late type. The markings I have after the TDC is SI | 14° | 16° and there's no gap between for me to mark out the 15° point. I'll have to check...

    I'm popping out slightly

Found it cheers! I got the engine block as a replacement and it had been left in a barn with quite a scruffy/scratched surface. My current copper gasket is 0.8mm thereabouts. Do you think this would be enough to compensate?

    I'm popping out slightly

Cheers James, I'll have a look for that gasket. Will any Landy part dealers such as paddoc's or John Craddocks stock it? Is that depth gauge hole, you mentioned, in the front left if you were facing the engine? I can get a closer pic and post it if this helps. It is just the front piston and...

    I'm popping out slightly

Hi folks, Hope this is in the appropriate place, but I hoped to ask your advice on my 2.25 diesel engine. No.1 piston head peeks over the surface of the engine block surface by 0.30mm on the rear edge of the piston but not the front edge. The gasket is thicker than this and there's no movement...

    1962 clean up!

Yes. I've still got to take the grub screw out securing the fuel drive gear and then I can take the camshaft out too. I've taken the tappet guides out and kept the tappets and guides in the correct order as well as the pushrods.

    1962 clean up!

It went when it was parked up and I started it to charge the battery. I ran for a bit before a ominous clunk and then nothing. it wasn't that loud so I assumed it was the gearbox (being naive at the time). I was lucky thinking back that it wasn't 't on the road when it happened.

    1962 clean up!

Hi folks, I'm Mark, I'm 24 and just previously (about 6 months ago) I never dreamed I'd be able to fix a Lawnmower never mind replace/fix a bodged (so-called restored) series 2a gearbox and engine. But, however, I have indeed endeavoured to resolve my Land Rovers F+£k ups or shortcomings for...

    Battery power

As far as I can tell, the outer battery brackets and the air filter are attached to each other so I'll have to have a think. I'm a stickler for keeping things original which is also a major problem, haha! I've had two, consecutive, batteries on the wood blocks now without trouble, so perhaps I...

    Battery power

Cheers, that would certainly do the job. I'll look up some reviews on it :) I'm still tempted by this for the cold weather: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Exide-Premium-100Ah-900CCA-12v-Type-017-Car-Battery-4-Year-Warranty-EA1000/191792348430?epid=807487451&hash=item2ca7b6fd0e:g:8BgAAOSwqrtWp18g...

    Battery power

Cheers Rob, I had thought about if there might be a newer compact battery that might still be 100Ah with a CCA of about 800-900. Do you know where I'd find the code for the battery holder? Would it be in a Haynes manual or parts catalogue, do you think? The current Batteries are 353mm in...

    Battery power

Great Info chaps! Little late to the party here, but I'm guessing that I'm not going to find a 100Ah 12v battery that fits the standard series 2a holder. At the moment the battery is chocked up on two wood blocks to elevate the battery above the brackets with a strap to secure it. Are people...

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

    My brothers just suggested sikaflex?

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

Yea the rubber tends to do that. I spent a lot of the time pulling that stuff of the pipes where it had been secured. Bloody awful!

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

Cheers folks! It's definitely gonna be one of those things and I'm sure they're probably just as good as each other. I'll just have to make my mind up. :D Incidentally, they're producing something similar to Dum Dum here...

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

Cheers Col! No trouble, I sometimes get paranoid about things people type when you start a new post on a forum encase it's something I should know, haha. I see a lot of people who get the old telling off for starting pointless threads & I was hoping I wasn't one of them. :)

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

This isn't my gearbox but it shows the matt black substance. It could be silicone, I'm not sure. It seems to set rather brittle and I was gingerly chipping it off with a hammer and screwdriver. I was testing two bell housings for the correct one and they both had the same stuff seen here.

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

Cheers James, I'll just use silicone. :) Cheers, Mark

Black sealant for bell housing grommet?

Cheers, I'm hoping the "????" isn't an 'are you for real?' question. The only reason I ask is I've had a few series 2a bell housings, all with the same matt black sealant around the cross shaft grommet. It's not the rubber it'self as it exceeds the radius of the grommet, so I'm assuming it's...
