    Cheers for clarification 👍

That would be if I just rammed it Into the fan. But if I press it against the fan until it slows down. Remember it's still cold so should slow down if the VC isn't broken.

Well that's what I'm thinking. Instead of wedging it in could I not hold the roll of newspaper and press it against the fan until it stops. Their's probably no need to hold it until it reaches temperature, is there?

If it takes my fingers off when I retrieve the newspaper (there might be something I've missed) should I call it a day?

When you say newspaper, do I wedge it in-between the fan blades & do I stop it's initial progress on startup? Because it'll be slightly stiff to begin with won't it?

Thanks guys. I think it's actually okay. I'll test it again tomorrow to see if it spins freely after turning it a few times.

Will a bit of penetrative oil plus mole grips do or should I drill them?

Is that BMW? As it is a BMW engine.

Is this from factory or after market?

    P38A P38 2.5 diesel viscous fan rivets.

I'll give that a go! Funnily enough it's gone stiff to turn again. I was turning it before and then all of a sudden it loosened right off! But it won't do that again. I've been turning it for a while.

    P38A P38 2.5 diesel viscous fan rivets.

Your completely right! Was spinning the nut and it was tough but after a good few turns it's loosened right off. So it isn't knackered! I think that's correct...

I thought it works the other way round. When it's hot it it's hard to turn?

    P38A P38 2.5 diesel viscous fan rivets.

How can you tell if its knackered? I've got it off the engine at the moment.

    P38A P38 2.5 diesel viscous fan rivets.

In the process of putting on new fan belts and noticed the viscous fan coupling has failed. (it's like trying to turn a blade fast in cold tar when the engine is cold. Is that broken?) I notice the petrol fan viscous coupling uses bolts instead of fixed rivets to the plastic fan itself. Can I...

2001 P38 2.5 diesel water pump best brand?

Thanks, guys. Is Airtex a good brand or should I go with Bearmach? Or something else. TBH it's sounding like a lottery really.

2001 P38 2.5 diesel water pump best brand?

Hi humanity, In the process of replacing fanbelt & removing the high pressure fuel pump so thought I'd order a water pump too while the belt & fan Cowell is off. Which brand of water pump for the p38 2.5 BMW diesel is best/quality. I'm looking at a Bearmach part but then read someone highly...

    P38A Testing EAS Height sensors.

Yeah the screen went blank. Yeah, maby just needed the next setting up that would explain it. Anyway I put the supposedly working Dunlop back on and nothing. Most likely a break in the wires in the wheel arch. I've done everything else.

    P38A Testing EAS Height sensors.

Right these two are the Dunlop. Side ends of the sensor terminals. These are both relatively smooth when reading on middle/side pins moving the arm but they do both go out of range at the higher end and one goes down to 200 but then jumps back to 900 so that might be buggered. The other one...
