    MOT requirements - lights??

Yep, blue and white is headlights, not sure why I have spares... The most frustrating thing is that I know it was connected!!

    MOT requirements - lights??

Hmm... okay. I have traced the wire to the loom at the engine bay. It returns to being green and brown, then goes into the cab in the main loom but then disappears!! I have spare red and yellow ones (don't appear to do anything), a brown and red (is attached to an earth?) And two blue and white...

    MOT requirements - lights??

Thanks for that. The brown that the reverse goes into is part of the main taped loom so perhaps it's just been hijacked. Does your reverse light wire stay the same colour to the switch?

    MOT requirements - lights??

Very useful, thanks. Trouble is, it also shows green and brown for reverse lamp - not got that! It's green and brown from the unit, then into brown and then goodness knows where it goes...

    MOT requirements - lights??

Thanks for that. Do you have two fog lights or just one? Presumably it doesn't actually matter what the light is, it's just that the wire gets there... Of course an independent switch would be necessary, which would explain why mine is like that... Will go out later to fiddle.

    MOT requirements - lights??

I have managed to make some sense of a wiring diagram but it doesn't actually quote the reverse lamp, rather a left and right fog lamp. But am wondering if that will be the wiring, quoted as red and yellow. I just find it odd that it would change colour three times before hitting the switch...

    Slow diesel road test

Hmm... I'll try to get one of my 2 1/4 petrol... It goes quite well and happily gets to 60.

    MOT requirements - lights??

This was actually a really good suggestion. It has helped me work out the good and not so good earths and to find some live feeds. Have the fog up and running again now plus done some tidying up and niggles that a test lamp has helped greatly with. Still struggling with the reverse. Having taken...

    MOT requirements - lights??

Having done a bit of a Google, there does appear to be some vehicles in this year with the same rear lights fitted as mine so perhaps they were standard. I was trying to understand where the switches would have been (my dash has been bastardised), but then recalled the little add on switch board...

    MOT requirements - lights??

That's actually really useful. I never really know what I'm doing with a multimeter which as you say, adds to the confusion! Light on/light off seems like a much more sensible way of diagnosing this one. Thanks!

Thank you to you all for the replies. Looks like I need to poke and prod aimlessly with the multimeter some more...

    MOT requirements - lights??

Hi all, My Series III has been off the road for a little while so I've been getting it ready for a test. It's a 1983 county. Firstly, it has a reverse and rear fog light fitted. Are these aftermarket? I've not known another to have them but I am aware that its year means it's is on the cusp...

    Running temperature

Mine is a standard set up and always runs bang in the centre of the guage, idling or driving. If you drive, it will cool as air passes through (unless you're thrashing it up a hill!). I would suspect something is amiss if it's hurting the red. Is the timing okay?

Bonnet (or hood, depending where you are...) lock?

Is there actually a theft issue with series III landys these days?

    Washer pump earth

I thought it was that one but my lights are working... Perhaps it is knackered!

    Washer pump earth

Quick one: can anyone tell me the location of the earthing point for the washer pump on a Series III? It's spontaneously stopped working and I assume crusty earth to be the issue. However, it goes off into the loom so that I can't find it! Everything else is working so I'm assuming it's not a...

It's not just V8, if it's made by LR then it leaks something!

    P38A 4.6 Engine Refresh

Agree with all of this. Clean the cap, take for a good run then check again. Compression test for consistency across the cylinders and look for bubbles or pressure in the header tank. If you get none of these, rule HG failure out. Compression is likely to be lower than the book says but if it is...
