    Straight 6 rebuild

He's toying with the idea of getting it dipped, don't think he knows what's best for removing all the paint etc without damaging the steel. Any ideas?

    Straight 6 rebuild

Thank you very much. In case any one is interested my mate is also making progress on his Sprite, everything that can be removed has been removed, the tiny little engine came out with a couple of us tying it to a piece of 2X4 and then just lifting it, wouldn't fancy trying that with my...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Cheers, my intention is to give the current flakey paint a wire brush and then red oxide and NATO green the outside, the inside I haven't decided exactly what to do but it'll something like a waxoyl douche, need to do some research to find out what's best.

    Straight 6 rebuild

Bit more progress last night, after my chippy tea I started about cutting out the rot around the front face of the bulkhead and quickly welded in an internal brace to replace the double thickness section I cut out. The tunnel for the washer hose etc was pretty knackered so that came out...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Haven't been able to spend as much time as I would have liked at the workshop recently but here's an update on what's happened over the last couple of weeks. I thought the passenger side top corner wasn't too badly rotted at the top but planned to wire wheel it to check, the first touch with...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Got a couple of hours in this evening, cut and welded in a strengthening bracket for the footwell to connect it to the upper part of the door pillar as the aftermarket ones don't come with them like the originals. Also welded in the other side of the door pillar to the inside of the footwell...

    Straight 6 rebuild

That wasn't something I'd thought of doing, I'll see what happens when I replace the driver's side door pillar as to what will be best so that it all stays square. Cheers, it's obviously not in properly yet but I can sleep a bit more easily knowing I'm not going to come back to the workshop to...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Spent Saturday in the workshop trying to get the new door pillar to line up with everything else, which it doesn't. First job was to get the door to hinge on it properly with them on the bench, I ended up needing the fabricate a 5mm spacer to get the door to not foul on the pillar as it opened...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Spent a few hours at the workshop last night, got the bit of rot cut out of the transmission tunnel, a new piece welded in and welded in the new passenger side footwell. Also had a chuckle at my mate's repair manual for the Sprite, the section on repairing bodywork damage recommends...

    Straight 6 rebuild

The radiator panel is on the to do list, the previous owner has filled the bottom rail of it with filler so I know the bottom needs cutting off and replacing. One job at a time though! An engine rebuild is on the cards at some point but finances may not allow right now, we'll have to see. I...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Got a few more hours work in last night, got the last of the footwell spotwelds drilled/chiselled/cut to leave what remains of the door pillar in place I knocked up a piece to replace the area of rot on the transmission tunnel, will get that welded in either tomorrow night or at the...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Going to try to keep the momentum up, I earned some brownie points with the wife over the summer by spending three weeks of my holiday allowance laying flagstone floors in our house and decorating the downstairs so now it's time to concentrate on my own project.

    Straight 6 rebuild

Picture of the driver's side for comparison: After a quick look at the missus car to find out where it's leaking (again, bloody clios), I got back to the landy, removed the driver's side sill, passenger side floor pan and then started drilling out the spot welds on the passenger side...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Spent a few hours stripping the passenger side sil, heater matrix, blower and dashboard out. Need to sort the missus' car tomorrow but might get an hour or two to do a few bits.

    Straight 6 rebuild

It did have a metal snail shell type blower in it but the casing rotted away and a few of the fan blades had snapped so I replaced it with the bilge blower.

    Straight 6 rebuild

Cheers guys, am planning on spending most of tomorrow there to sort a few bits out. The blower is just a bilge blower that I bought off eBay, fitted nicely in the space though I should've got the next size up as it's still a bit asthmatic.
