    Straight 6 rebuild

Been out enjoying the old girl the last couple of weekends but also putting it to work (the pampering is over, time to earn it's keep again!). With the beautiful weather 2 weeks ago I got the top off and had a couple of days as a convertible :D Met up with a couple of mates and did a bit...

    Gearbox Problem - 2.6 6Cyl 109"

I lost 3rd and 4th in mine (also a straight 6) for about 10 minutes a while ago, when I changed the oil I found one of the synchro springs in the catch pan in two pieces, one of which had two deep gouges out of it where I guess It got caught in the teeth of the gears?

    Straight 6 rebuild

Well, the time has come for the old girl to come home, it's not 'finished' (whatever that means), there are still a couple of smaller odd jobs to do which I'll get round to in time but I wanted to get it out for the summer. My half of the workshop seems an awful lot bigger without a 109 in it...

Just a wire wheel and paint.

    Straight 6 rebuild

The last week or so has been spent finishing off little jobs, putting the exhaust back together, painting the last of the chassis etc and also doing cosmetic things. I was given some fairly ropey looking bench seats by a mate, one of them was missing the seat base and the vinyl on them was past...

    Heater Motor/ Matrix

When the case on mine rotted and the fan blades shattered I replaced it with a bilge blower, loads of them on eBay.

    Straight 6 rebuild

Yesterday I was finishing off lots of little jobs so not too many pictures to show. I cut the tailgate hinges off and welded them back on in the right place, fuel tank plumbed in, tow bar electrics wires up, the seatbox bolted up to the rear tub, sill covers back on, refitted the seatbelts and...

    Typical.... I had a plan

Was originally a 25 year rolling exemption, was then frozen in 97/98 but has now started rolling again at 40 years. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/vehicle-excise-duty-40-year-rolling-exemption-for-classic-vehicles

    Straight 6 rebuild

One thing I have just noticed is I am missing the rear most tub supports as shown on your chassis, I guess mine lost its ones the last time it had the crossmember changed. I may fabricate some if I can be bothered.

Bit odd to specify 1970-73 then.

    Typical.... I had a plan

There aren't many who admit to planning to make a ringer on here...

You've either got a gantry crane or a few strong friends just out of shot then! ;-)

    Straight 6 rebuild

I unbolted the 10 bolts that connect it to the rear crossmember, the rear sections of sill covers need to come off, there are two bodywork braces just infront of the rear wheel arches, 8 bolts (4 on each side) connecting the tub to the outriggers just behind the seatbox, all (6?) bolts that...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Aye, lots of bolting things back together and painting/waxoyling still to go. I'm determined to have a topless ride this summer though!

    Straight 6 rebuild

Suspension grumbles, firstly my new rear shock absorders are weeping oil  time to dig through my emails and find out who I bought them from. Secondly the britpart forwards rear suspension out riggers are naff, they come on a backing plate that sits flush with the side of the chassis rail...

    How rare is my 109?

I missed the bit about the engine conversion, sigh, one less 6 pot. The derv engine looks like a tight fit, bet it doesn't sound as good as the 2.6!

    How rare is my 109?

Tidy looking vehicle, nice to see another 6 pot owner on here. I'm currently in the middle of some structural repairs on mine, nearly ready for it to come out of the workshop!

    Straight 6 rebuild

Shrimp flavour last night, it's important to have a varied diet! :p Last night was spent putting the rear suspension back together, it's been ages since I got to play with spanners, was quite refreshing! New shocks, bolts etc, the springs were reclaimed from a mate of mine who has had his...

    Straight 6 rebuild

Well after my amazing dinner I set about cleaning and painting the rear axle, backplates and hubs. Part way through I went to get up to get something thinking I was clear of the bodywork...apparently I was not. After that small interruption I got there in the end, looks much better...
