Ditch the sound proofing and keep the carpet, although I might have a think about the stable matting :)

Well, I've done a boot floor before on a 200tdi, and it took me a while as it was an absolute wreck. I've been putting it off, but I thought it was about time I got to getting the carpet up on mine to see what it was like. I didn't really want to until I could commit to actually replacing it...

I've used nielsen heli-coil inserts before. come in a kit with the correct drill bit etc, and they're great, and for £10, really great! Had a 200tdi with one in the head (exhaust manifold), and three in the timing case!

well, I'm willing to be corrected. I'd quite like to try some of the 6010/11s, but the welding supplier near me doesn't supply them. They do have low-sulphur rods though. Not sure if they're 7018s or something else. They sound like a lot of hassle to keep dry though.

Is the bloke welding underwater oil pipes or bloody skyscrapers!? Anyway, 5.5mm is classed as sheet steel, over 6mm is plate..

People use 6013 for all sorts - it's general purpose, and you can still get good penetration - more than you'll get with the kind of MIG available to mere mortals!

I just buy white box ones from my local tool shop, which are relatively cheap, but not crap! :) My wife just loves the fact that they live in the airing cupboard too hehe
