Series 2 Renovation required - Swindon

Yes the OP hasn't mentioned how long they have had it or what they have done to it/had done to it in however long that is. It could be that it was rotten and a previous owner fitted the galv chassis, then found it easier/cheaper to fit a s3 bulkhead than s2a, maybe they ordered the wrong...

    Another Fleabay sale

So they have both ended - the black one sold and the beige one was ended early 'because there was an error in the listing'. Looking on DVLA both were on SORN, and in neither case does the vehicle colour or fuel type match what it is being sold as now. Also looks like the beige one was...

    Another Fleabay sale

OK so may not be stolen, but given the "Hybrid or Ringer" post is in this section and with reference to that info, if this is being built up now or is at least recent/not finished now, its got to be dodgy...

    Faceache sale

Having a quick look at the DVLA vehicle check website reveals the interesting fact that the latest V5 was issued today. Also it is untaxed.

Snap. Your rebuilt seat box looks good.

    Series 2 Seat Belts

I suppose moved with a load of household stuff it would have been quite economical. I was wondering about the reg, what you have said is pretty much what I thought must be the case but it's interesting that the old boy didn't bother registering it straight away, I guess he must have used it on...

    Series 2 Seat Belts

Tenerife eh? Must have been quite an undertaking to ship it from there, if it had been on the Spanish mainland at least you could have conceivably driven it back. I'm not surprised you wanted to keep it though, especially having bought it from someone who probably owned it for some time. I had...

    Series 2 Seat Belts

Very nice. I recognised that those are Santana lights before I noticed the logos on the mudflaps and that it is LHD.

    RR Classic purchase dilemma

I'd say others on here have given good advice. For my 2 penneth if I could afford it I would probably go for a fully restored one provided it really is that and done properly as mentioned above. I loved the 3.5 V8 engine, it really was a joy and I never had any trouble with it, except the oil...

Stolen Defender 90 Reg. DC15 BFN

Surely if the tax had been cancelled it would show as untaxed from some recent date, not two years ago. It's possible to have an MOT without tax if its kept on SORN but again if cancelled due to theft the date would be recent, not revert to the last time it was actually taxed?

    Dodgy Brakes

Sold it about 15 years ago :( Current 109's gearbox sweet except makes a horrible noise in reverse. Will look at that in due course. Brakes were best I've ever experienced in a Series, probably not so good now but again will get sorted eventually.

    Dodgy Brakes

;);) It was steep, 1st or 2nd gear speed territory, loose surface, single track with a bend at the bottom. I thought if anyone comes round the bend the other way or I can't take the corner when we get there, we're fcuked  It was the first time I'd gone down that particular track so indeed...

    Dodgy Brakes

Yeah I reckon they needed some adjustment or other attention, they were OK but I have ingrained on my mind one occasion when I nearly lost control of it down a hill. It wasn't fade, they just weren't slowing me down by a comfortable amount and it had just jumped out of first gear - it wouldn't...

    Dodgy Brakes

I can certainly confirm from experience that there is a huge difference between unassisted brakes and servo assisted brakes on a series. The former were dreadful, although there may have been some adjustment issues, but my current 109 has a single circuit with servo and they are (were) very...

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

I hadn't thought of that, I think mine in the Renault would not stay on with the ignition turned off, as with indicators, brake lights etc. My main problem was driving forwards with them still on on occasion... A tell tale buzzer was a good idea.

    Reversing light on '75 SWB

Interesting that some of what is required to fit is already installed in some cases, particularly loom as the OP was hoping. I'll have to have a look and see if mine has any of the things you mention. I have been toying with adding reversing lights and once all my lights are renewed I thought...

    Exhaust repair

Yep, tried and trusted method... There is a dB limit when going through vehicle approval as part of registering so exceeding that as part of a modification might result in falling foul. Maybe it doesn't matter in the middle of nowhere

    Series 3 Historic status

Obviously insurance is a serious issue which is why you need to be sure you qualify for MOT exemption if claiming it, although as I understand it insurance wouldn't be void as such, it will always cover the third party. Rozzers will still take a dim view of course. You should get historic tax...

    Series 3 Historic status

I think the moral of the story is not to risk serious trouble just to save having to get MOTs. Since the exemption is self-cert, the onus is on the vehicle owner to know what they are doing and tell the truth. There is a points based system of what constitutes original or modified and if in...
