1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Busy day today! First of all I made up the plate to go on the lower front bulkhead and welded that on. Then offered up the inner wing panel to get it tweaked properly to fit... This shows it with the upper wing panel resting in place. Then did a load of drilling for the bolts to fix it in...

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Made plate for lower bulkhead side and welded it on- looking happier. Tomorrow’s job is front of bulkhead, possibly trial fitting inner wing.

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Busy day today. Off came the inner wing with much grinding. You can really see how mangled the old wing was when compared to new one! Managed to get the upper wing off the old one, won’t put it on new one until it’s fitted to car to get panel gaps right. Then began chopping rot out...

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Began stripping more off inner wing (wiring loom, brake pipes, front body mount) in preparation for drilling out spot welds to remove inner wing today. Keep finding bits of Peugeot glass from the rear window of car I hit!

Thanks for the replies- am going to give it a go straightening panel out first.

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Inner wing came yesterday so started stripping ancillaries off old one- wasn’t too bad but did reveal more tinworm in footwell. This will need to be patched before inner wing goes on. Not particularly looking forward to removing inner wing top too as will have to straighten it up and reuse it...

    Disco 1 Gearbox seal/gaiter rivet/screw size

Does anyone know where to get the rivets which hold the rubber seal onto the gearbox tunnel? I’ve removed mine by drilling out the pop rivets but can’t find the right size to replace with. I’d rather use self-tapping screws or bolts but can’t find them either! The bits that go in the holes here...

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Yep it’s same one still on Autotrader! Seller hasn’t pulled ad. Whilst waiting for inner wing to come I got cracking on the gearshift bias spring replacement (gearshift was awkward to get into 3rd/4th), the plate had broken and was an easy fix. New bias plate and spring in place... So...

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Good call- the inner wing section I’ve ordered replaces the entire lot- https://www.froggatts.co.uk/page39.html Pricey but worth doing as I want to keep it. Insurance guy came round today- it’ll be written off but he said buying it back won’t be a problem as it’s non structural damage.

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Right. Arse. This happened... Which is annoying. Even the cat is saying “You idiot...” A learner driver stopped, went again and stopped, I didn’t. My fault- can’t argue. On removing the outer wing and bits, I discovered the inner wing was i) bent and ii) rusty... So luckily someone...

    retro fit remote locking........

Zombie thread I know but this thread suggests it’s single wire locking on the pink wire- this right? https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/central-locking-actuator-aftermarket-alarm-question.120701/

    Disco 1 Radio code?

Cheers thanks! Have powered it up and it does appear to ask for a code (which I don’t have!) Am looking through the places which can decode radios. Thanks! These high end systems sound amazing- I just want my original stereo back in, know it won’t sound amazing but will look retro. Planning on...

    Disco 1 Radio code?

I have an old Discovery radio I’m trying to reinstall into my Disco 1. I’ve managed to power it up but think it needs a code- guessing I’m going to have to pay for decoding? Also anyone know how to enter code? It’s model number PRC6499, as in pic below.

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Thanks- I’m loving working through the (minor) to-do list on it. Where do I find the 200 series owners group?

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

It’s had a load of work done previously, rear crossmember, front inner wheel arches and stuff. It’s not perfect but pretty sound overall.

1992 200tdi Discovery- gradually improving my daily driver

Just picked up this earlier in the week, full MOT, 126k, nice condition, £800! Looking forward to ironing out the niggles with it as I drive. Delighted! Planning on keeping it as original as possible- 200tdis are getting rarer. After a set of beige boot seats, possibly load roller cover and...

Disco 1 Just bought 200TDI- loving it

Aha that worked! Here it is in its bronze-beige glory! Will look into an aftermarket central locking system- have fitted them to cars before so shouldn’t be too bad.

Disco 1 Just bought 200TDI- loving it

Ah thanks, got the upload button- how do you put pic in post? Also should mine have remote central locking? Didn’t get a remote with it.

Disco 1 Just bought 200TDI- loving it

Well I bought the one I was on about (1992 bronze 200TDI 5 door) and the seats are missing but mounts/belts still there, so I’m after a beige set! Also a few other niggles -central locking (lazy motors, stuck locks) -gearshift bias spring broken I think (difficult to get into 3rd/4th), looks...

Dickie/boot seats in Discovery series 1

Hi all, Thinking of returning to the Disco-fold after years away. Seen a nice 200tdi, but don’t think it has the 6th/7th seats in the boot which I want. Is it just a case of buying them and bolting them in? Are fixings there on all cars? I know there are various problems with type approval...
