Ah the Halfords set is decent is it? I keep hearing bad chat about Halfords but perhaps that's just bluster. Will save me a lot of waiting for online deliveries if I can just pick up from there instead as it's only down the road! Is the shock spray good? Doesn't damage the bolts or hole in the...

Got both off with homemade strap wrench and perseverance. Maybe a few bleeding knuckles too. Water pump housing loosened fine. PAS pump bolts are solid as a rock though. I've been chiselling and wd40ing to loosen. No luck so far and light has failed me. Any other tips I'm missing on this or...

Hey all. Made some decent progress (for me) today getting fan off, cowling out, all hoses off. Loosed bolts on water pump fine by rigging the serp belt with a clamp to holy tension. But can't loosen PAS pulley bolts as with no teeth on the pulley my belt can't seem to get any grips. Any tips...

Cool - sounds easy enough. Just a question though - if i manage to fail at both core plug and drain plug removal, does it matter? Can i still do all the taking off of front casing to sort the tensioner hole and replace p gasket without draining the block?

@Turboman Ha! Fair enough. I haven't tried whacking this one with the hammer yet as wasn't sure how gentle to be. I'll give it a go. It's bloody hard to get to though!

@Turboman Fair one. not sure im keen on the chisel option though! Will be ordering a new plug to be replaced at somepoint. But just want to check that if the block doesnt drain for this job, is that an issue?

@Turboman There's a problem there i am afraid. The plug on side of block is not shifting. Any attempt is sheering the nut. On advice of others, i was told to crack on and just drain via rad. is that likely to cause an issue?

@boguing Knew it was a stupid question. But thanks!

Probably a 'special' question but given i am doing this piecemeal as no free weekends at the moment to work on her, is it okay to drain the coolant and then leave the engine like that over a period of weeks while i remove bits and get fixed? I'm just wondering as it is left out to the elements...

Cool. Thanks fellas. Another question, anyone happen to live near tooting and have the tool to hold the pulley in place while using spanner to loosen viscous fan? Obviously as I can't get belt on with tensioner stud buggered, I need something to keep pulley still while I loosen fan. Turns out...

Hey chaps. The saga continues. Loosened hoses. All good. Went to drain coolant via bung plug on block (near dipstick) but can't shift it with out the bolt disintegrating! Is there another way to drain coolant so I can crack on? If I do via radiator will that do same job?

Cheers all. @neilly think you might be right about bolt size so i'll look to pick up a new one from Halfords (cough splutter) i guess as already ordered most of my parts. Hopefully once i have more of the bits out of the way (rad possibly not, but certainly pipes and fan etc) i may be able to...

Chaps anyone happen to know helicoil size kit i'd need for the job? Thinking of taking off the case but wondering if i should have the kit ready and then just get engineers to help me out sorting it? Or will they just do and i don't need kit. Just don't want to come to weekend and find i don't...

Great stuff. Thanks for those bits. Between all the ones i have found, something is bound to help. I have this workshop manual which i think is the best i have come across for my vehicle - only problem is it says it covers vehicles from 1996. Whereas mine is 1995. Just will be a case of...

@boguing Is that better than Haynes manual? Is one phrased in a slightly more 'idiot proof' manner? Ie lots of photos and diagrams!
