P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

I actually have this written down to try since yesterday, after I made the post I looked at the electrical diagrams for all abs related grounds. All the grounds I had found were ones I’d already super cleaned and tightened. I have measured from the potitive on the battery to the grounds on the...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Would this cause the issue to appear even when the vehicle is stationary with the engine off? Lol, the odds are that even if I find the electrical issue I could then end up finding several different mechanical faults!

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Hi guys, Just a quick update for you guys, readings for the abs sensors below ( they all seem fine? ) I don't think I need to explain the picture, its pretty self explanatory I hope - I had the multi meter on the "2K" setting for the ohms readings. One thing to note, there was a bit of...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Thank you very much for your input, Just to ask, the error lights and messages came up straight away when you turned on the ignition? I have never even gotten mine to work properly once since I bought it, so no such thing as an intermittent fault here. Originally when I bought the car I had...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Ok, good to know that there probably isn’t any other connectors that could be causing a problem. I guess the next course of action is to properly check all the sensors resistance and go from there.

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Lol, this is the one time where it’s unfortunate that the seem ok as I really don’t know what to chase after next. I’ve confirmed the ground points for the abs ecu are going to ground (and are relatively strong). Basics like battery, alternator are all good… connectors are bypassed and soldered...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

I can clear the codes but that one fault comes back instantly “ecu/reference ground fault” one - since the system self checks every startup - it displays the errors straight away

Typical, yes, sorry it appears to have the same - here is the other vid https://m.youtube.com/shorts/Gm4sCVw7hWU

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Hello everyone, thanks for all the suggestions so far, really it’s all I’m looking for as I just have to try stuff! I haven’t got a chance to measure each individual sensor but I did hop in this morning and record a vid. ( they’re actually 2 vids I can’t seem to combine them into one on my...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Yes, I’ve been in contact with Les a few times, I’d definitely go to them if I need any ecu work done.

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Yes, my second ecu has trouble with some of the sensors, but the first one seems to be fine. I will investigate the sensors and see if they actually are fine - then decide whether it requires a new ecu

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

If all the 4W modules are interchangeable, then I wonder why one module can read all 4 sensors - and the other one (2001 module) says that the RL is at 0v (either disconnected or short I assume) I guess the 2001 module must be faulty unless there actually is an issue with the RL sensor - I will...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Update: the grounds on the ABS ECU I could find are as following I probed connector C504 pin 12 (Ecu ground) - and got a nice bright light I probed connector C506 pin 3 (Reference earth) - nice bright light. They seem to be the only grounds I could find in the workshop manual on the ABS ECU...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

I definitely think that the pressure may be an issue - there is certainly some kind of a wiring thing going on as I do believe the scanners error codes. I’ll check out the front sensors as I agree, they are so easy to access you may as well. I’ll probe the ecu connectors once I find the...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Thanks for the info on the EAS connectors, that was one of my worries as I do want to put the lump back on air one day, just need to sort out all the other issues first! Ok - I will bleed the brakes - no harm to run some fresh fluid through the lines anyways. Potentially the ABS ECU I swapped...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Would I have to do these tests? The scanner I'm using used to say "Front right sensor short to another sensor" - and it was correct as the wire was almost sliced through. Then after I replaced the FR I checked all 4 wheel sensors on the scanner - the rear right wasn't getting a speed signal...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Sorry, I should have mentioned - it’s a 1999 DSE so I would assume four wheel traction control. I will count the presses tomorrow but I’d say it’s more like 3 presses before it runs / 2 presses the odd time. The system should be fully charged, I no longer get any other voltage related issues...

P38A ABS Fault and Traction failure from ignition II

Hello everyone, Just looking for some help on this issue please, since I have bought this vehicle its had a persistent ABS Fault and Traction failure message along with the two standard ABS and TC lights. They appear straight away once the I turn to ignition II and the ABS and TC light stay on...

HELP - Crossed battery terminals now shorting/non start

Just to ask a general question here. If I wanted to install central locking back into my white P38, would I have to transfer BECM etc from the green one? (If we pretend the green P38 was is working condition for a minute)

HELP - Crossed battery terminals now shorting/non start

Lol, I mean it depends on your opinion on condition I guess. The green P38 is 2001 - 155k miles Bad: Engine needs timing chain Suspension needs overhaul Brakes need overhaul General bits, exhaust, bushings etc All components underneath need wire brush and paint. Good: Body work is spotless...
