Series 3 BANGING AND JUDDERING AS TRY TO MOVE OFF

I would still say check the handbrake, one test of that would be to whip the drum off and take for a small drive up the street or something, remembering of course you have no handbrake. Mine used to do it when it had been stood in damp grass and the shoes stuck to the drum, once i adjusted it it...

1975 Series 3 Rebuild (The second time around)

Had a good bank holiday weekend with the old landy, took her to the garage on Saturday morning to sort out the tracking which was out very slightly and is now spot on, its lovely driving with a centralised steering wheel again! Took it for a spin then with my mates in the back, did about 20...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

I think it was £800 delivered but arrived damaged, the bit where the dash goes onto was bent quite a bit. Fair play to rimmer brothers though, they sent a fuel tank as compensation (we need a new one so thats what we asked). Cant fault their customer service at all, excellent We're going to...

    Aaron's 90 rebuild (round 3)

You painting the top limestone? Looks good! Just rebuilding the engine on our 90 atm, got a new td5 bulkhead to go on too, just needs painting MoD sand first

Series 3 Bought an old chassis and now got a letter from DVLA

The points system doesnt include like for like replacements, so if he swaps all the running gear into the new chassis and builds up using the new chassis' id then alls good. To all intents and purposes he has simply rebuilt that vehicle, his other one would simply go for scrap and be recorded as...

    Diff question. 3.54 24 spline into 4.7 10 spline

Plus i think diffs would make a difference to mpg as you wouldnt need to rev the bollox off the engine as much to get it up to speed. It'll just be like having an overdrive engaged all of the time. This is the reason why i dont want to swap diffs in mine, i like the versatility the overdrive...

    Diff question. 3.54 24 spline into 4.7 10 spline

Rmember a 90 is 300kg heavier than an 88", that makes the difference. Its why a 2.5NA can propel a series motor quite nicely but feel ridiculously slow in a 90

    North Wales

There actually isnt many on anglesey, Ive never really found any. Im going to shell island with a bunch of old leaf sprung land rovers in April so will be doing a few lanes in Gwynedd. Im not very clued up on green laning tbh

Series 3 Should the temperature gauge usually move much when driving?

Advanced fuel timing will make an engine run a little hotter due to the leaner mix, but wont make a difference on the gauge (tried all sorts adjusting my pump timing and no difference). If needle sits at bottom of gauge all the time, possibly the feed wire to the voltage regulator has come off...

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

Okay thanks James very helpful :) I did notice the extra bungs. Are pistons and big ends still the same? Also id imagine the numbers to be stamped on the bearings so id know if they were undersize?

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

Was it common for NAs to use turbo blocks from factory? No record of engine change in our paperwork post MoD and didnt think they used the turbo diesel. Also the pump is standard dps off a 12j

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

1986, mines also an earlier one from 84/ early 85 with the single breather. Not sure if the double set up was wanted by the military or just a general improvement by land rover to cure the heavy breathing issue

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

Stage 2: Removing the cylinder head More progress, the engine stand was still set up for my 2.5N/a when that was on the stand which made life simpler. (Needs turning round in the photo) Next up is to remove the breather pipes. These werent standard jubilees on this one, instead they were 6mm...

Broke Bertie :( klunk then the propshaft and wheels stopped turning.

s3 are 10 spline up till the introduction of the rationalised axle in the later ones (circa 1980s)

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

I wouldnt use it for crank bolt but worked well for the others. Also with an impact gun i dont think it puts much turning force on the flywheel anyway Also when rebuilding the steyr engines in the marines boats in work we use timing pins to lock it

step by step 2.5NA Rebuild thread (picture heavy)

I know I have another rebuild thread but thats more a collection of random photos As most know, there is also a 90 on the go in our garage which is my brothers and the time has come for an engine rebuild. (Yes that project is still on the go just havent updated it for ages) Stage 1: Getting...

2.5NA temp sender thread size? (PRC3541)

Found it! Apparantly it gets used on other things. Anyway its M22 x 1.5 if anyone else needs it and luckily they do make an M22 x 1.5 to 1/8NPT reducer
