I didn't mention paint or shinyness in my post. The last one I bought for my friction pad hitch was black metal. Before it was installed it was roughed up (and cleaned) with a wire brush attachment to a drill.

Not sure the ball/pin balls are correct as I remember them as being shiny. The correct ball for a friction hitch is black and definately not shiny as it relies on friction. Do you have a local towbar fitting company your could ask ?

315 had small (1.5") reflectors at the bottom of the rear light clusters and the 375 had a large (4") bulb lit lens !

The point is that the larger the ground plane (in steel of course), the better it is, and if you can't mount the antenna actually on the ground plane, it needs to be connected by as large a conductor as possilble. Folk with motor homes (plastic) actually normally silicone a 1m x 1m steel sheet...
