Gaskets have just arrived...I'll be changing them tomorrow and properly checking the turbo trunking for holes.

I thought they were plastic, not carbon fibre!

Well, that's interesting. Mine is definitely an alloy inlet manifold and is non-EGR. I guess at some point in its long life someone has either changed the engine or the head. You live and learn!

I have just finished checking the manifold nuts and the 2 nearest the bulkhead, whilst not loose, were nowhere near as tight as the others. Once I had tightened them, I took it out for a quick drive. The whistle is still there but it is less pronounced and a different tone so I know I am on...

The only compressor is for the EAS and since I have removed and replaced that about 4000 times, I know it doesn't come from there.

It's a diesel but it doesn't smell of fuel at all.

I do my own servicing so would hopefully have recognised it if I had taken it off. But, you are right, it is very clean which makes it all the more confusing since it came from underneath.
