D2 Rear Wheel-hubs: are Loctite and/or RTV needed when installing a new one?

Thanks - I've found the Loctite 648 which seems to be one from the latest bulletin.

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Another updated, I have just received the wheel-hubs and have began installing them - I have a few questions that I posted here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/d2-rear-wheel-hubs-are-loctite-and-or-rtv-needed-when-installing-a-new-one.395075/ for anyone to follow / help :) Thanks!

D2 Rear Wheel-hubs: are Loctite and/or RTV needed when installing a new one?

Or just the single oring that comes with the kit will do just fine? I have just disassembled mine and noticed a lot of old RTV / Silicone in the axle where the hub fits. There was also not any sign of "red loctite" on the splines of the shaft. Also, the wheel-hub kit came with some sort of...

    Is a D3/D4 less "bouncy" than a D2? What about a L322 2002-2011?

I would be looking at petrol versions of both though (But I believe those have other engine issues that are easier to prevent?)

    Is a D3/D4 less "bouncy" than a D2? What about a L322 2002-2011?

😂 yep - maybe a D2 is enough But it would not be the main family car; we have a toyota for that. We would use it for the « fun weekend drives », assuming it would not break mid journey 🤣

    Is a D3/D4 less "bouncy" than a D2? What about a L322 2002-2011?

Hello, I have a D2 2004 and love it (even with the problems I am currently trying to figure out :p ). Misses also loves it but does not like it how "bouncy" it is. So we are looking into getting a second LR for the family (yes call us crazy). For those who have driven both D2 and other LR...

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Just an update: I could not find any apparent problem in the parts that I inspected; hence I have decided to start replacing parts, starting the from the wheel hubs. I am waiting for the parts to arrive. Meanwhile I decided to also purchase a spare whole rear differential axle from a scrapyard...

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

I see - since the noise is still there without the Drum, my guess is that the problem should be on the rear axle (right?). I am trying to isolate exactly where it is. Yep

Yes! The Drum shown in the video must be different, it got me confused.

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

I just did another test drive, this time without the Drum (not sure if I should/could have done that...) and without the rear prop shaft. - Going down hill in "Neutrals" - noise still there, much less pronounced, much quieter - but still there - Engaged Lock in High - noise still there, again...

Just inspected that, they are not loose and there is enough "meat". The Drum seems fine, no groves or anything. Haha! Yes, there are only those 4 in mine too, just like you described. But the 5th one mentioned is the one I saw in this video () where it seems hold the break expander.

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Been there - I had to buy 3 ujoint kits before I found this video: Then it was a breeze Thanks - it is funny, the images show the hand brake expander with a groove for the spring. Mine does not have that grove for the spring. And the spring kits do not have such spring (they have only four).

Are the Differential Assemblies the same from 99 to 2004 Discovery 2?

I am glad I did that test at low speeds  up to 40km

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Thanks again! I have found a D2 Workshop Manual PDF, thanks. Sorry about confusing the names, when I said "Drum Cover" I actually meant the Drum (item 1 on page 70-27 of said manual) I have not changed drum brakes before - actually I have not done anything "mechanical" before I had this car :)...

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Just did that. A couple of things: - The screw that holds the drum was kind of all wrecked (see picture); and drum "cover" that sits on outside the actual drum had a little bit of play - There is no apparent oil leak inside - Everything seems to be in order (AFAIK) but here are a couple of...

Disco 2 Noise from rear when coasting

Well, we have an interesting development: I took it for a drive again to try to do more tests - drive in first gear only, second, third, try low/high, diff-lock engaged, etc. And then I tried pulling the hand-brake while going down hill (not really sure if this is bad or not for the car). As I...

You were helping me on the other thread (noise from rear when coasting) https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/noise-from-hear-when-coasting.394304/ :)

Yes :( Unfortunately Well, let's keep investigating - hopefully it is not the transfer case.
