Once it starts it's pretty much constant white smoke It pretty much needs to be revved to keep running if I let off the accelerator it winds down and stops - that why I think that the pump timing is off a bit....the smoke seems to be constant regardless of revving

Thanks Steve but I went through everything so many times it was impossible for me to be 180 out as I did rotate (just in case) I don't have problems with pumps as fuel shooting at least 4 feet from injector pipes and a good 1 foot spray from injectors....I have a problem but don't know what it...

Yes I did the pump timing with the pin in the side and the arrow lined up with the mark. I have done the timing several times with several methods and I'm now sick to death of it. I'm not doing any more to it for a while....if you've been to the begining of the thread you'll know I've been going...

I live in spain...you're welcome to drop in for tea!! Unfortunately there were millions of santana built here but so little by the way of forums, parts, mechanics etc. Spain has very little in second hand motors...especially for modification as it is not allowed here!! Cheers

Yes everything on the list ticked.... All point to defective pump which is wierd as its the only thing on the engine I haven't messed with. Will start saving and see what santa brings...no idea how much a replacement pump is.... Cheers

Ok. I am about at the point of giving up on this engine.....haven't made any progress in weeks. Will just save up and buy a running engine...I've spent long enough on it. Thanks for the pointers. Steve

Hi Steve Yes everything lined up...3 dots on 3 arrows. Tappets all set. Took a video of each injector to illustrate spray...looks great to me!! But it wouldn't let me upload!!

When I say it runs on easy start...it coughs splutters and makes smoke but doesn't really run! I don't want to spray too much in it in case there is something wrong...... I've done everything by the book and done everything suggested on here and still it won't run....I've spent a fortune on...

Thanks, I have bypassed most of the first problems by using a 10 litre container of clean fuel direct into lift pump. Lift pump working very well, manually and cranking. Good spray from injectors when cranking (these are new). I checked these by pointing them up in the air with a blackboard...

Ok...I agree, if there was some diesel getting in it would at least try ... just like the easy start. Is there a tried and tested way of ensuring that the pump is completely free of air? And supplying sufficient fuel at the right time?? Cheers

Hi...there very little smoke coming out - I have inlet and exhaust manifold off and it looks more like a spray if diesel than smoke...I get tons if I give it a spray if easy start but I expect that. Are we thinking pump timing?? Cheers

Fuel pump not been removed and is as air free as I can see, plenty coming out of the overflows - is there any way I can further bleed it?

Done that...all OK I did try a squort of easy start and of course it tried to run but wouldn't keep going once that had been used.

Yep keep coming back to it cos that's the only way the book says...I am not a mechanic but I think I have got it timed right according to everything I read and the little bit I do know. I don't know why it won't start and we're to go from here. Thanks for the input.
